So far in 2016, over 500 people have been shot by the police all over America (according to CNN), and a large number of them are blacks. Most unprovoked shooting victims are black males. The common explanation for this is racism. White cops hate blacks, which is understandable based on recent happenings, and an email exchange between cops in a district about blacks (forgotten the district).

However, there is also a point that needs to be considered. Most crimes in America are by blacks and Mexicans, and most prisons in America are populated by these two groups of people. An average officer working in areas populated by blacks is used to gun exchanges between the police and blacks, which makes most cops to act defensively when engaging a black.

We all form prejudices based on our experience, and according to a report I read after the Diallo incidence, most cops act suspiciously towards blacks. As much as we can call it racism, but I think if any of us is in their shoes, you will form such mindset also. i remember during the height of boko haram wahala in the north, especially when they were using girls in hijab, how I and most people I talked to chased away girls in hijab coming to beg close to us, or how suspicious you will be of a guy in dreads and baggy at night in a lonely place if you are a lady walking alone

Why do you think not a single cop has been sacked or convicted right from the time of Diallo till recent happenings, is it because the system hate blacks. Read the court proceedings, the argument is always that white cops are always psychologically primed against blacks in such areas.

I am not a black hating black, but I think blacks need to start looking inwards and start acting more responsibly. Will it kill you to dress responsibly. I am yet to see a responsible looking guy get involved in police shooting (maybe one last year). You may say don't judge a book by its cover, but if you are a police that needs to decide in a split second whether a black is dangerous or not, the cover is your only way of judging.

There was a time that the Jews suffered such prejudice too in Europe, 6 million of them were killed in the holocaust, but now no American presidential candidate can win without supporting Jews, most of the top 100 richest Americans are Jews, over 40 Nobel laureate, why wont anyone take them serious. They have been able to overcome the prejudice and bias by being responsible citizens, and contributing to the society they live in and the world at large.

As much as I support the "black lives matter" protest, there should also be a change of black culture in America. Successful blacks need to go back to the projects and ghettos and educate their fellow blacks. A life of crime does not pay, it only makes cops suspicious of the innocent blacks, same way terrorist make people suspicious of law abiding Muslims.

This is my opinion, and its just to provide a different way of looking at things. As much as I agree that some of the cops are racist, blacks also need to start taking responsibility for their actions.
