Goodday naira landers
please I need suggestion to this matter,my friend rented an apartment temporarily with someone for a year and now they have stayed 5 months already, all of a sudden the roomie said she no longer wants to stay and she wants to bring in a new person into the room and if my friend is not comfortable with the idea, that means she has to balance her for the remaining 7 months
the issue now is that my friend is scared of staying with someone else she doesn't know and at the same time she thinks it's inappropriate to balance the roomie after the rent has been paid
so I will like to hear from naira landers in the house on what should be the best thing to do

Smart move. They want to kill two birds with one stone. They probably know your sister can't balance the money so they'll both stay. Forget the talk about her leaving. It's all a trick.

She should neither accept the new person nor refund. ..
How could she bring a total stranger to live with you?

Then, about refunding her, why should you refund her? Did you chase her out of the house? She's leaving on her own accord so you don't owe her anything. ..

If she's a very good friend, you can consider either of the options. .but just know that you don't owe her anything

thanks a lot
the other roomie is causing a scene already saying her rent cannot waste blah blah because she now stays with her boyfriend and she thinks the rent is wasting away
from my point of view I see that as being selfish

Her rent can't waste? Is anyone chasing her out of the house? She should go and meet the landlord for a refund; You contributed money together and paid to the landlord... hardly any landlord that will refund such money as she isn't being chased outta d house. . She can come anytime she pleases as it's still her house till the rent expires. .but about refunding her? Nah..
What if you don't have the money hence your need for a roommate from the onset?

As I said you can heed her request if she's a good friend and you can afford it... just for the sake of peace

Or.... you can look for a replacement by yourself.
Someone who you might be comfortable staying with. I don't know where you stay or what you do... but corp members usually need a place to stay and hardly stay beyond a year.
It will take time though....

Your friend should stand her ground and get a roomate she is comfortable with, if it takes 3months for her to get a suitable person she can stay with 3months should be deducted from the remaining 7 months balance that the ex roomies wants to collect.

I had a similar experience but I was the roomie that was taken.

I was running a program at the other end of town and I needed a place to stay because its a very long distance and the family I was staying with over there had told me indirectly that I have overstayed my welcome.

Luckily I got an agent who told me a lady needed a roommate for a miniflat. We sealed the deal and I made preparation to move in. We agreed I would pay about 65% then and would balance the remaining after a specified time. Our agreement was we could have visitors. We signed a handwritten receipt and that was it I paid the agent for the link and the amount I paid is 50% of her monthly rent for a year. The place was furnished and she even told me I may not need to bring much properties it was just a bring your luggage kind of place. She even moved her stuff out of one side of the wardrobe. I just brought mattress some utensils and personal effects.

After I moved in I met the agent along the road on day and asked me if everything was okay I said yes no problem he now said he asked because that day after I paid my roomies called him and when he got there she told him that she wants to bring another person to the room, she was going to collect another half rent from that same individual and the agent told her its not done that way that she can't do that and our agreement was two of us not three persons. Luckily her mum was around from the village when I got the place so it was the mum that spoke sense into her that's she can't do tha. I was like really. I didn't say anything about it.

The time to pay the balance came but she travelled to her village that time.I was to pay to her account but somehow I defaulted on that date. By the time she came back some days later I told her I was sorry I couldnt meet that particular date so as we were talking she said she wanted to bring someone from her village a pregnant girl so she will stay with us deliver the baby and maybe give the baby for adoption .

All the alarm bells in me were ringing, I said is she your relative she said errrm no "my sister from the village" (all these na my sister parole) I said does your mum know about you bringing her she said her mum will not allow her to bring the girl to Lagos if she knows. I didn't say anything at first.

Later that night I told her that having a pregnant person living with us permanently will not work as I need to study for critical exams and pregnant people need care and beside I don't support harboring someone that we don't know that is pregnant that hope she knows if anything happens to her all her relatives in the village that threw her out will come for her head and me too will be involved as the roomie. This is naija and Lagos ooo I don't have the strength for wahala and prevention is better than cure that she can be sending money to the girl to help her my friend did not listen to my talk

She said the girl can't disturb me I a inhumane etc etc. I then saw that diplomacy time has ended that its one of three options.

1. Do not bring the girl we agreed to be 2
2. Just remove the months I have used and give me the remaining balance if you want to bring her.
3.I have your balance with me let me use the remaining months left and leave if you are still bringing her.

She didn't agree with any of the options, So I held the balance. She said I can't hold on to the money I said I will and that's the leverage I have. Our agreement changed the moment you decided to bring someone else to live permanently with us and not just anybody someone from your village that you are not related to and is pregnant and you are thinking of giving the child for adoption that I like my life and don't want anypolice or court case for my self.

She called the agent they called me we held a meeting I said I am not saying she can't bring her but she should just take one of my options. They said I am inhumane , difficult, that I call myself a Christian and I am wicked that as easy going as I am I am very difficult.

I just dey look them and I still held on to the balance she even threatened to beat me up sef just because I held on to the cash loool. when I saw her wahala was to much for me I left the place for her and stayed with someone.

When they saw I didn't buldge they called another meeting at that point sef me too I now did shakara that I can't stay with someone that threatened me because of small matter.Anyway we settled it that dat.

The agent said I should give her the balance I asked is she still bringing the girl she said shes not I paid her and we lived till my money expired.

we are now good friends and I visit her whenever I am in that area.

Your friend should find someone suitable herself simple.

wise idea though, she can keep postponing till the 7 month gets over sef
the other roomie is a selfish and wicked person to come up with such idea, trying to inconvenience someone why she benefits it all

onyekachee, also, if the roomie already moved out, please tell your friend to change the locks pending the time the issue gets resolved.

Below are some tips:
1) If the roomie wants to bring in her own friend, your friend has to vet her before she moves in
2) Your friend looks for a roomie herself...no matter how long that takes.

Again, please tell her to change the locks.

Never get a shared apartment, they think I will renew my rent but am gonna move out and tell them I ain't staying , after all it might hurt them because I shoulder most of the bills, never share flat with anyone, I'm just looking for how to tell them in a way that will crush them

Newton's third law of motion; for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. All your actions will find you. It's an established law of the universe.

I have been following your comments and I love d way u think...
you said something I understand like, that our brain have the ability to capture other people I'll thought about you provided your brain has a high frequency radiation...

However, my question is, Christians pray and they get answer and I believe if they haven't been getting answers all these while no one needs to tell them to stop, so how do you explain praying and getting answered of your prayers?

It's possible to pray for someone. No one listens or answers to these prayers but your good words and intentions can have an effect. When you say things about your brother in the USA, maybe a prayer that he should send you money, what I earlier explained happens. His brains pick up the signals from your broadcast. He remembers you and begins to wonder how you are coping in Nigeria. He then calls you and sends you money. A prophet or a native doctor can also do this faster through using certain chemicals to send your feelings faster to your brother. The native doctor might demand a piece of clothing of your brother or his picture. This is even faster because his clothing or picture contain bigger particles of him. ENTANGLEMENT OF SUBATOMIC particles between your brother's piece of clothing or his picture can be used to induce him to do anything.

I typed entanglement of subatomic particles so you can google it.
