It is not only lawyer that can register a business name, non lawyers can also do that. The practical steps to take are

1. Conduct a search of the business name your want to register. How will you do that? visit:Https://login.remita.net/remita/external/CAC/collector/payments.reg . Generate what is called RRR with CAC (Corporate Affairs Commission) . In that RRR platform, select what you are paying for which is for name search/availability.

2. Once you generate an RRR, it will display a reference code and account number where the payment will be made. Take the slip to any bank of you choice and pay the amount stipulated therein. The fee is #500 only.

3.After payment, the bank will give you a confirmation slip evidencing that you have paid. Attach it with your deposit slip and proceed to CAC

NOTE: IT IS ADVISABLE TO USE FIRST BANK. IT IS FASTER AND RELIABLE WHEN IT COMES TO PAYMENT OF CAC FEES. ALSO, ANY OTHER BANK IS ALLOWED,BUT ACCESS BANK IS NOT AN OPTION, IS VERY SLOW WHEN IT COMES TO PROCESSING OF CAC FEES. ITS YOUR CHOICE.

4. At the CAC office, present the deposit slip together with the print out given to you by the bank. CAC will confirm through their portal whether the payment has reflected. Once the payment has reflected, it will be stamped. At this juncture submit the stamped copy to the officer in charge who will give you a form.
NOTE: YOU MUST DO PHOTOCOPY OF THAT STAMPED SLIP AND THE DEPOSIT SLIP

5 Once you are done filling the form for the business name search, submit the form and enter the form number in the CAC register. That is all.

NOTE THE NAME WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE AFTER 60 DAYS OF SUBMISSION OF THE FORM. THAT IS THE PROVISION OF COMPAINES AND ALLIED MATTERS ACT. ALSO, YOU MUST CHOOSE TWO NAMES FOR THE SEARCH.
