PLS SOMEONE URGENTLY COME TO MY AID. I TRIED REINSTALLING WIN XP SP2 ON A CELERON LAPTOP. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE INSTALLATION COULDN'T BE COMPLETED COS IT STOPPED AT THE COPYING FILES STAGE. NOW I'M TRYING TO RESTART THE SYSTEM AND I'M GETTING A BLACK SCREEN WITH A COMMAND PROMPT AFTER THE INTIAL POST DISPLAY.
I ACTUALLY FORMATTED THE HARD DRIVE BUT THE CHALLENGE IS THAT IF I BUT AN OS IN THE CD DRIVE IT DOESN'T GIVE ME THE OPTION OF "press an key to start from CD/DVDdrive"

Was just about going out when i saw this, ok i have to make this very quick. leave the Os disk in turn off the laptop please
back on again and keep pressing f2, delete or F1 until you come to a Bios screen look for boot/device piority change it and make sure the CD/DVD Drive is set first then The HDD second. make sure there no pheripherals attach to your laptop such as printer, usb stick etc as can halt the installation. then Press F10 safve changes and exit it should now prompt you to press any key. if not turn it off please and try again

Also make sure you are using lincence os cd not a counterfeit because it wont work. Good luck!

Well I've already gone to setup to configure the laptop to boot from CD/DVD DRIVE. the issue is that except I use the original winxp CD I attempted using to re-install XP on the laptop, it doesn't give me the option of "press any key to boot from CD/DVD drive"
Also pressing F8 key doesn't give me start up uptions.
I've tried several XP CD's I've used in the past. None seems to be working. i just get a blinking command prompt after the POST display.

I WAS JUST TRYING TO HELP A FRIEND SPEED UP HIS PC WHICH I GUES WAS INFECTED WITH VIRUS BY REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP

does that means you"re not using original disk ?

secondly


make sure no external pheripherals attach to your computer such as printer, speakers, usb stick etc

as this can halt the installation process.

If its stopped at copying files then you receive an error message like STOP: c00021a Fatal System Error or no hard dis detected

seems you"re technical person yourse,lf is the HD SATA or IDE drive? and you have no more than 1 HD drive and you not multi-

booting, just checking that all. This hd test is what i see at my work place to test hard drive and memory. you just need a cd-r or+
