Kindly advise my teacher friend.
He got his current job late last year and he is paid a monthly salary of 65k plus free accommodation. The salary is very regular and he gets at least 13k by the end of every term. Before the end of the just concluded term, the management of the school directed that every staff should reapply for the position they currently hold or any other position they deem fit to occupy.
Meanwhile, the management had told them there is no room for renegotiation. So, they were subjected to fresh written and oral interview this week shortly after fresh applicant did theirs. Although, he is confident he will scale through, the threat and stress of the just is becoming unbearable.
Just yesterday, he got an offer from another school (new school) to be paid 75k but without accommodation. He is considering leaving his current job taking the new job while he waits for his July salary to be paid.

Is this really a wise decision?

Nothing is better than leaving. Why would one reapply for his current position?

65k with accommodation is OK ooo..because with 75k u can end up paying over 35k for the same accommodation.. But again..there is nothing as good as professional growth..if the new school offers better career path..then he/she can opt out..my advice is remain with the one that offers free accommodation.. BTW is this school in Lagos?

Accept the 75k. Freedom is powerful.

For your basic salary, you have 10k increment.
Move on bro...

10k x 12month = 120k
With 120k, you should be able to get accommodation of 80k per year at your level plus total freedom...

That would help him in making decision.

Why would your current employer ask you to reapply instead of promotion to a new level or provide opportunity for training within the holiday period to increase your knowledge?
Perhaps what he is doing is reappraisal of staff performance which you dont need to fear if you have done your job well diligently.

If the new school offers a better career path then go for it and use the additional N10k to pay for accommodation. I know it is always be difficult leaving your current free house to an 'unknown' rented apartment but sometimes you may have to leave your comfort zone to excel.

Go to the new school and inquire from those currently working there about the working conditions and opportunities such as parents ready to pay for extra lessons before you take a final decision. Pray for direction from your creator and then listen to your innermost instinct. Goodluck!

Depends on how much accommodation is in the area he lives. If the new increment can cover it and give him a place with the same level of comfortable as he was in, then he should consider moving.

Can he get accommodation for N10k?
Is he sure of being paid regularly in the new job?
What of the comparative stress level of both jobs?

Don't forget to put into consideration the cost of accommodation in your vicinity.

Schools that offer accommodation, often give their staff extra work load (outside academic work) especially when the school has boarding students.

All this graduate asking unnecessary questions sef. You know the location this your friend stays and the cost of getting accommodation there so you're in the best position to know if he should stay or move. Haba!

since the current job has issues,I would advice u go with the new one.what is the assurance he will be re employed?besides,employers do funny things when they want to review working conditions.with 120k,he can even get a self contain/mini flat depending on location.

Take the 75k and have your peace!
