Why Do Religious People Pray ? by Atheists: 5:46am On Sep 18, 2009
• They want entry into Heaven (a miraculous afterlife state)
• They want the miracle of reincarnation
• They want a miraculous cure for the sick.
• They want world peace through divine intervention
• They want divine intervention in the economy.
• It might be to praise God but only because he or she is believed to be capable of one or more of the above.

Prayer is about seeking a result. Even if people pray for “God’s will to be done” it is because they expect a beneficial result. That result is always in some way miraculous.

Why do scientists think?

Why do athletes run?

Why do dogs bark?

Get it now? ? ? ?

Your question is preposterous because being religious requires prayer just as surely as being an athlete requires running?

You got to do better.

I suspect you do not have an intelligible reason for being an Atheist. Many people are Atheists on this Forum because its fashionable to be one. Can you give me your reason for calling yourself an atheist?

No - Many people are atheists because the god-narratives they have heard so far makes no sense. Do you believe in god? Which God is that - the Christian Gods, the Muslim gods, Zeus, Sussicorn, etc, etc?

Can you give us a positive primary definition of the god you believe in so that the atheists here on NL can examine. Maybe your god is the god all the atheists have been waiting for!

I have said severally that i am neither christian nor muslim. But i do belive in God.

The definition of the God that i believe in, since you ask is: the uncaused cause of all existence, one clearly manifesting attributes of intelligence, passion, beauty and purpose. A Divine Being without Form containing all the components of space, time and eternity.

YES! Thats why we have prayer warriors. Its easier for the masses to gather at a place like a church convention {give thier hard earned money to thier church leader} and pray for miracles instead of marching to Aso Rock to demonstrate and fight for thier rights where a few might get shot and and maybe killed in the process

The real fervent believer prays before (al)most activities in their lives:

Going to bed
Eating
Playing sports
Taking exams
Attending meetings
Driving or going on a journey

But I have never meet a Christian who admits to praying before SEX with their partners. I wonder what the words of such prayers would be?
