Governor Obiano Installs Emeka Oraukwu Monarch And Dares The Protesters, by politicalcritik: 2:29am On Jul 29, 2016
The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has installed Dr. Emeka Onuorah as the monarch of the Oraukwu community in Idemili North Local Government Area, despite the protest from the people of the area.

The community had on Wednesday halted activities at the Government House, Awka, in a protest following a suspicion of an alleged imposition of Onuorah on them by the government.

The leader of the community, Chief Harold Mbanusi, had said during the protest that they were at the Government House to stop the government from foisting Onuorah on them.

Mbanusi said the community had held an election for the purpose of electing a monarch for the community, where Onuorah came a distant third.

He said in the election, Chief Pius Okoye scored 535 votes; Vincent Okechukwu scored 20 votes while Onuorah scored 15 votes.

Reacting, the Acting President-General of the community, Chief Harold Mbanusi, said the community would not recognise Onuorah as their monarch.

He said with the election, Okoye should be crowned the traditional ruler of the community and be presented to the local government area which affirmed him.

It is very easy for anyone with internet access to look up elective monarchies throughout history, from ancient Rome to the Holy Roman Empire. Everyone must not do things the way they are done in your neck of the woods.

What are the administrative functions of traditional rulers where you come from?

Where I am from, traditional rulers are not elected like they are some kind of administrative clerk.
They are embodiments and custodians of traditional culture.

Which takes me back to my original comment here: What is it that makes you feel that the selection process for people who occupy a traditional position (be it king or titleholder) has to be done everywhere the way it is done in your own community? Is it cultural arrogance that makes you feel this way?

As I have told you, many societies follow (or followed in the past) an elective kingship system. We cannot all live by YOUR norms.

They don't have traditional rulers at all? Or they have but they are not elected? Which one of these two are you suggesting?

Only you know what you searched for. The Njemanze dynasty has reigned in Owerri for generations.

Enugu probably has not traditional ruler as it is a town created by the Europeans during colonial times, and as such is not a 'traditional' town. The Igwe of Nike, however (Igwe Nnaji) lays claim to certsin suburbs of the town.
