The monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Alimosho LG, Lagos State is a program that makes some amiable youth in Alimosho Area especially Alimosho Youth Development Association(AYDAN) to come out in their numbers to carry out the monthly exercise by cleaning their environment in Alimosho.

The youth movement who organises the exercise that was tagged ‘’PARTNERSHIP FOR CLEAN AND FLOOD FREE LAGOS” were motivated when the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment Dr. Babatunde Adejare who represented the Deputy Governor of Lagos State Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule also joined them with some government officials.

AYDAN members led by their President Mr. Lateef Olawale Ogungbade and the Vice President Hon. Sosanya Adegoke were all happy to receive the Commissioner for Environment Dr. Babatunde Adejare into their mist and other dignitaries present such as –Hon. Kehinde Joseph– Special Adviser to the Lagos Stete Governor on Civic Engagement, Hon. Ganiyu Quadri-The executive Sole Administrator of Alimosho LG, Chief Edward Obisesan-APC party Chairman, Alimosho, Hon. Airat Alamu– the Executive Secretary Local Education Authority, Alimosho and many other who also engaged themselves in the sanitation exercise which commences today at about 7am on 30th July,2016 at Alagutan area of Alimosho, Lagos.

The commissioner also appreciates what the youth forum is doing in ‘’developing the community through her monthly sanitation exercise which is what the association stands for. ‘’Development is Our Priority’’ ”that these development is what the Lagos state government is known for and that government has embark on Emergency Flooding Prevention/Reduction Measures. It has also followed these up with routine maintenance of existing drainage channels and construction of new ones, as well as initiating other measures and projects to deal with menace of flooding.”


After about 2 hours exercise the commissioner used the opportunity to inspect the ongoing drainage and flooding control Project at Orisunbare area of Shasha in Alimosho.

The honourable commissioner encourages the youth ‘’to be more pro-active, by educating and enlightening the residents of Alimosho on why it is important to clean, clear and dump the dirt in the proper centers that was provided by the state government and for Lagosian to desist from dumping and building on the drainages, that these acts leads to temporary blockage of the drainages which might later lead to flooding in the area.

According to the Commissioner, there are measures down to ensure that the ugly experiences of flooding are reduced or totally eliminated so that Lagos would have a flood-free rainy season. Among the measures put in place is what the Office of Drainage Services under the ministry describes as an “all year round cleaning and maintenance of drainage channels” across the state.

The drainage maintenance programme, according to Adejare, ‘’will lead to the de-silting of the major channels in all the 20 local government councils, LGs and 37 local council development areas, LCDAs, of the state’’.

The Ministry is constructing drainage channels around Orisunbare area,Shasha, Alimosho of the state to curb the menace of flood in the area among others.


Adejare further highlighted that the government will continue “to embark on adaptive measures to fight the global scourge. We have embarked on pre-rainy season massive cleaning and dredging of canals and drainage channels, massive enlightenment campaign to sensitise Lagos residents to prevent flooding as well as embarked on the need to live in a clean and sustainable environment”.....
