Five people were feared killed in a clash between soldiers and villagers at Kpaidna village near Beji of Bosso local government area of Niger state.

The number of people injured could not be ascertained, but Daily Trust learnt that four vehicles were destroyed while the crisis lasted.
Sources said the incident occurred about 1 am yesterday when the villagers, mistaking the soldiers in an operation for armed Fulani herders, opened fire on them, leading to violent exchanges that led to the death of the five people. An officer and two soldiers are reportedly missing.

Daily Trust learnt that a clash between herders and villagers in Barkuta, a community close to where the current incident happened resulted in the death of villagers recently, while a reprisal led to the demise of three herders.

Both the deputy governor, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso and the commissioner of information, culture and tourism, Jonathan Vatsa, who were on hand to access the situation, were prevented from entering the community.
Vatsa told Daily Trust on phone that he could not get into the village because of strong presence of the military.

The Niger State Police Public Relation Officer Bala Elkana confirmed the incident, saying, “About 1 am we received a report that armed men were attacking Kpaidna village but when we arrived we discovered that they were soldiers in operation.”
He said they gathered that the villagers mistook the soldiers for Fulani herders camouflaging in military uniform to attack the village.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Njideka Agwu, said, “We heard there were arms and ammunition in that village and we went for cordon and search after soldiers were briefed yesterday. Unfortunately, villagers opened fire on us and we don’t know the number of casualty for now because the information is sketchy, but investigation is still on.”

Don't blame the villagers for protecting themselves since the Fulani cabal in the military has opened the armoury to their herdsmen to kill farmers while pretending to be soldiers.

every criminal is a fulani herder that's what some people believe in .. That's how all sort of criminals, be it armed robbers, thieves, kidnappers, etc will come and attack a community and if they manage to escape, the blame will be on fulanis. The useless village people met their Waterloo while trying to massacre what they mistook as fulani not knowing that it is a superior fire power that faced them.

Criminals don't kill they only steal and leave to gather enough for them to steal next time and continuously.

Fulani herdsmen kills and rape without stealing hence they are terrorist and their leader is bubu

Fulani herdsmen informed the Army that there are presence of weapons in the village and Army went for search to dismantle the village for ease of Fulani herdsmen attack. The villagers should wipe out the entire Army that went there if possible. Terrorist Nigeria Army being led by Fulani herdsmen supporting officers.

When the government has blatantly refused to deal with the issue of rampaging killer Herdsmen this is what happens. Civilians take up arms to defend their territory, women and children.

Something as simple as condemning the attacks will reduce the impetus for further attacks. States with occurrences of attacks should ban these killers in totality and invest in ranches.

It is only when there are retaliatory attacks on the herdsmen you see these soldiers ordered into action. Don't be surprised if the the soldiers raze the village because of this.

The villagers are only protecting themselves, If you are looking for arms and ammunition go to the Fulani herdsmen's. The last time Fulani attacked the village even the MOPOL were fleeing from them claiming the Fulanis have more sophisticated weapons. It will take ages for the soldiers to arrive to their aid but when the villagers took up arms to defend themselves you want to dismantled them? This is unfair.

The neighboring villages have learnt from the Agatu crisis and are also taking up arms in preparation, That is the only way they can protect themselves from this criminals masquerading as herdsmen

Thatz nononsense on the part of the army, how can you come for an operation in a villiage without informing the village head................,if u were to be a landlord and just because a vigilantee group dat was just posted to community to curb arm robbery attack in the community enters your compound without pre-informing you and you opened a "bajinotu" fire on him, tell me,WHO IS AT FAULT?

You need to listen to the people's report and carry them along in opertion (they can even offer you intelligence report),how on earth are they supposed to know the difference between the NA and herdmen when the herdmen also use NA camo. Sometimes,Wait, and be killed again

I hope the farmers in other places are learning to defend themselves.
Modified:
I find it curious that the army would go around communities that have been attacked and seize the little weapons they have gathered to defend themselves.
It's the same from benue to jos.
Why don't they go on a nationwide stop and search mission to retrieve weapons from wandering herdsmen rather than from a stable community that is entitled to defend itself.
