One Joe Chinakwe, who was alleged to have named his pet dog ‘Buhari’ will be arraigned before a competent court in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Monday.

This was disclosed to Saturday Tribune on Friday by the State acting Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi. He said, that Chinakwe’s action could lead to ethnic crisis if not properly handled.

The acting PPRO said that the suspect who is a trader in Sango area confessed to have named his dog ‘Buhari’ and that the name was boldly written on both sides of the dog.

“The man is here with us, he is at the Criminal Investigation Department. The charge will be prepared here and he will be arraigned at Sango Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

“He is going to court on Monday because what he did was highly provocative. It can cause ethnic and religious crisis.

“We have to be proactive, we cannot fold our arms and allow the state to be plunged into crisis.”

The suspect was arrested Saturday last week when one of his neighbours reported him to the police that he named the dog after his father, Alhaji Buhari.

This is quite a tricky case.. I would like to see how this ends. But on a personal opinion n from a neutral point of view (NL tribal warlords, please take note), Nigeria has an already overcharged religious polity and what the man did was clearly an attempt to set ablaze that polity but he stands a good chance of winning this case with good lawyers though. Let the law take its course.

We are also waiting for you to locate this man and also take him to court. They must also point to the constitution where it says you can not give your pets popular names like Obama, buhari etc.

Instead of allowing the case to die naturally, they want give it more publicity and oxygen. We know Buhari loves violence so much and have made the call from Abuja.
