LOL! no joke.

instead of saying what's the point of this thread i just saw someone say what is the essence of this thread LOL!!

this unneeded english doesn't make you look articulate it makes you sound like a fucking wierdo lol.

essence?

they can never say i need to take a shit, its always "I must relieve my self in the latreen(sp?)"

lol, you're not impressing anyone, just stop. The worst is the names they give their kids.

Hyjenus
Romanus
Alphonsus
Ignatus
Leviticus
Darlington

you know something is wrong when Hyjenus is a common name in your country.

English is my first language, Igbo is my second sadly, but i get tired of igbo ppl (the worst perpetrators of this shit) trying to speak their "high caliba engleesh" to me. I ask whats your name and instead of telling me the Ijoma your mother calls you your gonna hit me with Augustus. My friend.

i HATE reading nigerian newspapers because they were type 3 paragraphs and have no solid information in any of these paragraphs. Just jargon and dictionary diarrehea.

There are some really stupid names parents give their kids like, Hezekiah. Even worse than the Igbo are some names you can find in the ND trenches like "London" or even "I praise the Lord". Jesu! shocked
When parents name their kids like this, you wonder if it is transferred aggression from their 9ja travails or they don't love the child. The only other reason is inferiority complex.

Its not only the press that are downright embarrassing, our "Nigerian" culture thrives on the rubbish. Politicians that are meant to be open and to represent the masses are known as "the AGF", "the SSG". The only missing one is, "the THIEF".

Sometimes i do tell english people i want to "ease myself",they will just look at me and say, huh, why are you being posh, what happened to the good old sentence of i want to wee wee?I will tell them i was brainwashed to talk like that in the name of queen's english and etiquette a typical english knows nothing about.
Re: Nigerians Like Speaking English Lol by Nobody: 10:44pm On Oct 07, 2009
wee wee isnt adult lingo.

I want to ease myself is correct in the Nigerian context.

I want to use the bathroom/men's room is generally ok anywhere, I should think.

Nothing wrong with saying "what's the essence of this thread". That's not big English in any way.
Re: Nigerians Like Speaking English Lol by bawomolo(m): 10:49pm On Oct 07, 2009
Nigerians like big verbose and titles.

it has something to do with the do you know who i am syndrome.
Re: Nigerians Like Speaking English Lol by redsun(m): 10:57pm On Oct 07, 2009
How about pee pee?i want to piss?or i want to shit?they are all same,it just depends on who you are talking to and on what ground.Languages like every other thing evolves with time, the vital thing is communication and understanding.
Re: Nigerians Like Speaking English Lol by Ikengawo: 6:46am On Oct 08, 2009
Here's the thing though. these idiots aren't communicating cause nobody understands them. so why speak?

africans are the only ppl in the world that speak to purposely not be understood. it makes no fucking sense lol.

when they go to america are 3 weeks the comeback and start speaking that annoying jim iyke english to their grandparents
when they go to school and comeback that start talking about antimanapliofolism not because its a subject that appeals to them but cause they wanna show off the fact that nobody knows what they're talking about cause it's such 'high english'

stupid. lol why speak?

intelligence is in how clearly you can communicate not in how many excessive words you can memorize and misuse.
Re: Nigerians Like Speaking English Lol by Nobody: 7:09am On Oct 08, 2009
No doubt, the nigerian press is mediocre.

As for other issues the poster brought up regarding names and the way anyone choses to speak english. . . . I ask; whose call is it to make?

"I want o wee wee" ; mostly used by children.
"I want to ease myself"; sounds ok to me since a lot of things go through people's mind when one uses "I want to use the toilet or latrine"

And where's the intelligence in posting this in the 'Politics' section of Nairaland?

Language is spiritual,it is soulful,it is rebellious, dynamic and has to come from within for it to make sense.

Why do think african s are confused?because they are not communicating, they are just gibbering.

Language as far as i am concern could be in form of sign but the key is assimilating,we are not assimilating that is why we are docile.

what annoys me much about africans (nigerians and ghanians in particular) is they struggle to change their "tone" once their plane touch heathrow. I grew up in uk, but luckly did most of my secondary school in nigeria and some part of my university. I learnt my native language and I made sure I learnt it very well. After coming back to uk, i met nigerians that when they speak, it is like "yuk" what is this guy saying? other migrants, especially from estern europe, speak clear english, without any effort to change their tone and accent.

A friend of mine came for his MSc last year. When i met him 6 months. . . i struggle to understand what the guy was saying. . . very annoying. . .

However, as africans we are generally now not meant to communicate. Apart from African and some south americans countries, all other countries in the world use their native language as language of communication. Even the english colonies . . . most retain their local languages, but Africans, we discard everything. . . we worship the white men. . . we depend on them to tell us what to do. . . we depends on foreign aid. .

That sounds funny.

Nigerians "OVER WRITE"

I don't know who they are trying to impress.  Get to the point - CLEARLY.

Instead, they write and write and write, to the point where, I lose interest and forgot what the hell they were writing about.

Maybe that is a bad UK habit.

THATS THE WORST. it's soooooo embarrassing.
in the country for 4-5 years and start speaking ebonics to you when you know damn well they don't talk to their mother like that. Sounding like they have a lisp with no tongue. Stupid people.

africans are the only people in the world that talk in a fake accent when they travel.

there's even a girl here from abia telling everyone she was born in the US and isn't 'from anywhere'
she loves acting like she doesn't have an accent. Her reason was cause a white person didn't understand her when she first came so she made it a mission to loose her accent.

Nigerians im going to break your heart but past the age of 15, if you haven't started speaking another language regularly, you're going to have an accent.
and you always will.

there's are professors from india that are in the us and have been here since 1930 that still have a think hindic accent.
and nigerian languages have a rhymth that american english doesnt, so even when they 'loose the accent' they still have that cadence that is a dead give away

stop embarrassing me. please.
