Hey guys,

I've been doing a little on Android development. I can comfortably consume already designed API systems(REST or CRUD).

But I've had issues creating apps with external storage (Web). I just heard of firebase and how it can be used for web integration.

Has anybody used this system before?

Firebase? I think they are Baas(Backend as a Service) provider. What do you need them for? Perhaps, you want to store your backend data( pictures, videos, databases ) on there server? If you understand how REST works, then ill advice you to learn how to do it yourself. With some php knowledge you can create scripts that uploads files to your server and updates database as neccesary. BaaS providers have their pros and cons, they can shut down the service at anytime --like Parse. But, sure they'll lift all the burden of creating and managing a backend server for you by exposing a Java API to your app...ask me questions if you dont understand.

Hmn, building a php integration stuff is not as easy as it seems, there are many many techniques you must learn how to do before you can succeed in this:
1. A simple JSON api can solve many of your problems.
2. There are times when you will need to parse a large amount of JSON in your android e.g. 10MB. Here you will need something like GSON.
3. There are times when you will need to run a PHP DAEMON to service your app
4. There are instances where you will need to use a websocket to facilitate real-time communication e.g. chat

I am quite tied up at the moment, or I would have provided a lengthy tutorial on how to do these stuffs.

What i can advise you is this, if you are going the PHP way, LEARN LARAVEL, and learn how to build a JSON API with it. If you try to do direct, you will likely get stuck.

From experience, I can tell you that a NODE.JS backend is superior to PHP in every way. Plus in case of real-time communication like chat, NODE.JS already has socket.IO which is quite cool. I later made a PHP version of the socket.io complete with android library integration - but i am yet to document it clearly.

Awesome dude.

I believe the service is not free. Free version only allows for 100 simultaneous users.

Yes, and its quite expensive escpecially this time that dollar isnt smilling. And they might decide to close down the service like Parse.com did last year.
