A Closer Look At The Gionee S6s - What's Your Take? by Tickles001(m): 9:59am On Sep 16, 2016
With the never-ending popularity of selfies, smartphone manufacturers are now focusing more on the camera quality of their smartphones. The market is already full with a variety of smartphones bringing the best front camera lenses packaged in beautiful designs and realistic price tags. Launched in the sub $300 segment, let’s find out if the Gionee S6s gets the selfie game right.

WHAT’S GOOD

The Gionee S6s comes with an eye-pleasing design and sports a metal unibody frame with smooth edges. The phone features a full HD display at 5.5-inches which is both bright and responsive. Despite a large screen, the phone is comfortable to hold or carry owing to its slim factor.
The power button and volume rockers are placed traditionally on the right and on the left is the hybrid tray slot for microSD card and SIM. The bottom features both the standard 3.5mm headphone jack slot along with a micro-USB charging port, while the front features the selfie camera, flash, and an LED indicator.
Gionee phones boast of symmetric designing and this one too comes with a center aligned rear camera, fingerprint sensor, and the company logo. gionee-s6s-rear

As part of Gionee’s own custom interface, a feature called – Chameleon – lets you use your phone’s rear camera as a colour dropper tool and pick colours from your surroundings to tweak the display’s background colour.
In terms of performance, the phone comes with a 1.3Ghz MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor with 3GB RAM that doesn’t disappoint and offers a smooth experience. You can easily fire up multiple apps and continue switching between them without facing any lags.

Targeted at selfie-lovers, highlight of the Gionee S6s is its 8 megapixel front camera that comes equipped with a secondary selfie flash, in addition to the screen flash, which offers brighter results. The selfies are better if captured in naturally bright outdoors. The rear camera too at 13 megapixel offers decent output. The in-built filters and camera modes such as HDR, time lapse, GIF, macro, mood photo, etc. further add to the overall betterment of results.
The phone comes powered with a 3150mAh battery which is sufficient for an average user and will last you a day.

WHAT’S NOT SO GOOD

Priced in the sub $300 segment, the phone comes with a hybrid tray for accommodating either a second Nano SIM or a microSD card, which defeats the purpose of having a dual-SIM phone.

The phone is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Gionee’s Amigo 3.2 layered on top. While the custom skin is non-intrusive, bundled apps consume about 8 GB of the 32 GB on-board storage.
Although there is abundant light offered through screen flash and an additional selfie flash, if you are taking a regular self-portrait without using the Beauty/ Front Beauty mode, you will notice that the image is sharper than it should be. That basically takes out the realism out of a selfie.

Gionee S6s is a slightly pricey deal even if you are a selfie-addict. Given the price tag of ($250 – $280), the phone isn’t exactly true to its name of being a selfie phone given the low megapixel count and non-consistent results. Gionee intends to woo selfie-lovers at a time when the market for camera-focused phones is booming. The phone holds potential to strike a chord if one wants premium designing, 4G, good performance, memory expansion, and a decent battery without necessarily going by the ‘selfie phone’ label.

What's do you think. Is the Gionee S6s over rated?

Have been using InnJoo One then switched to InnJoo Two... It's better than any MTK device here in Nigeria except Tecno and Infinix.

No regrets buying InnJoo ONE & TWO

Dunno what issue you got with innjoo I ain't my business. Used Innjoo one for 1 full year only had charging port issues which was fixed no charge. Then switched to InnJoo Two. Tecno Designs is too boring for me.

My innjoo one is long gone and dead, my younger sister's innjoo fire plus is looking like a dangerous masquerade, with the charging port about to fall off, can't charge without wrapping the charger around it. my senior sisters innjoo fire is now using a Nokia battery cos the original battery is swollen, the phone goes off at interval and I use to hit it on my head before I switch it on again. I'm waiting for it to finally die so I will throw it away.
So anyone telling saying good things about Innjoo is not really using the phone.
Innjoo should be banned from making smartphones.

Despite the deficiency Of other InnJoo models. Innjoo one and Two is quite reliable...

I think some Nigerians tend to use phone like smart phones like 3310. You expect it to be stronger and battery to last one week. They way you handle these fragile devices matters a lot even the way you charge the battery...

Example My InnJoo Two...

I charge it once a day to 100%, then it take me all day long on normal usage with playing battery draining games. When it gets to 20% or less I recharge...

Also the manner in which remove the USB from the port vigorously... that damages the USB with time...

Using stupid unwanted apps that drain battery... Launchers, Battery savers, some other unnecessary stuff...

Also using the recommended charger... Note the output you charger 5v 2.0A or 5v 1.8A etc

These determines the life span of your phones..
