Crazy Demands Of F.g.c Otobi Benue State by onyichick(f): 9:01pm On Sep 18, 2016
my younger sister just got admission into federal govt college otobi in Benue state and their demands are really crazy which makes me believe that the school management are enriching themselves illegally. I'm going to list the items which they have requested parents to buy and submit to the school when bringing their wards to the school.
2 reams of (I.Q) A4 paper
2 drums of saclux emulsion paint
1 1kg detergent
1 1litre of Jim/bleach
1 250ml of dettol
1 air freshener (liquid) 500ml
only to collect prospectus we paid 9000 naira its clearly written out as 500 naira.total school fees for fresh jss 1 student is 81,000 naira.I feel the school management is intentionally reaping off parents.
I'll love if this can get to the appropriate authorities so they could look into it and curb their excesses in order to prevent them from further reaping parents who are really trying to squeeze resources to send their children and wards to school.
please feel free to share the crazy demands of other unity schools. let's call them out and end this ugly trend

That's broad day robbery.
I went to one of the FGCs in the SE, I know that tuition fee is free for all FGCs , FGGCs and FGSS, then other fees like pta,Sports, feeding, hostel etc was 8-9k.
But another thing I know is that the Federal government carter for the feeding of all students every term Cox I over heard that from my principal and bursar.
If all new students should buy paints the school management will still write to the Federal ministry of Education that they spend so much amount on painting the school not knowing the parents bought the paints

OP do yourself the need and report the case to federal ministry of Education Abuja, I bet you the principal will lose His/her job before a week time.

@Seun ; @lalasticlala do the needful so that justice will be served

CRAZY DEMANDS BY FGC OTOBI
I share your pains and anger but your information was not correct. you don't buy audience or followers' Sympathy by mis-representing facts to suit your opinion.

1. your younger sister getting admission into FGC Otobi is a true statement of fact and i honestly congratulate her. she must be one of the very few students that performed well at the Common Entrance examination. I honestly wish her greater achievements in her future pursuit.
I don't believe in rumour and hear-say, I confirmed your write-up through a source at FGC otobi and it will be out of place to think and make a final judgement on an issue you are not sure of. you ought to have asked to know when you were informed of the requirements but I guess you must have been told the story by someone else and

i. There is no school where a newly admitted student is not requested to bring some items, even in Nursery school, students who are day students are asked to remit some items on resumption. 2 reams of (I.Q) A4 paper is a tradition in the college and you can find out from parents and students who had graduated from the college previously. I don't think that is out of place. It was also a collective decision of all the Principals and management of North Central Principals.

ii. Two drums of Saclux paint: The College management took that decision based on the need for the newly admitted students to have a feel of home like environment. Rehabilitation of a Junior Hostel is a Capital Project which must be appropriated in the school financial budget for the year before implemented. The target students were not the merit students on the list, it was meant for all students who would be admitted not on the strength of the merit of their result but on EXIGENCY list which has been sent to the ministry for approval. your candidate must have been a candidate on that list for sure.

iii.1kg of detergent is a mandatory house requirement and it is for the sanitary upkeep of your ward when she finally resumes. there is no Boarding school where a child is accepted into the hostel without basic sanitary items. you probably did not attend a Boarding school my dear.

iv. Dettol and bleach is used for disinfecting the students environment on daily basis. As young girls and boys, they are definitely not so grown to keep a healthy environment. some of them still wee-wee on beds, corridors and walls around the hostel. like i earlier said, it is a house requirement that is targeted at the conducive well being of your child while in school without you. it is usually for their personal use. they are only supervised in the usage. The Air freshener is used to freshen their Hostel for breath of fresh air because ....lolz, you know what i am talking about. like i earlier said, these items are used personally by the students and not the school management.

A copy of the school Bill was posted to me and the prospectus fee is 500 naira. The management explained that the nine thousand collected is for the following items:
1. two pairs of white Bed sheets with the child's name monogramed on it for 2,250 naira
2. two pairs of House Bedsheets with the child's name monogramed on it (the students are shared into different houses and each house has a peculiar color of uniform and house bed sheet) for 2,250 naira
3. A Hostel cupboard with security lock which houses the child's consumables like provision, bathing soaps, detergents, and toiletries and laundry items as well as cutleries. the school makes these cupboards for uniformity as if parents are asked to bring such cupboards, they bring cupboard of different shades and sizes not knowing that each student has a defined space for keeping these items. some parents don't even bring thereby leading to vulnerability and insecurity of the child's items in the hostel which might attract other children leading to theft. for 4,000 naira
4. prospectus for 500. f these items are to be made by parents, believe you me, there will be no uniformity in the uniforms as colors and specifications are a mater of semantics. my green might be your bush green while my blue might be someone else's royal blue or skye blue. with that, the idea of uniforms in a college is defeated. by the way, these items are more expensive in the open market. these prices as fixed by the college is as a result of their purchasing in bulk.
This totals to 9,000 naira as you rightly said but without a breakdown. you will agree with me that the prospectus is still 500 as prescribed by the ministry.

Total school fees for fresh jss 1 student was fixed by the Ministry (the circular was attached to me). the school was asked not to alter any component of that circular so the school fee is not out of place. you can confirm that with any other parent whose child is also admitted into JS1 in any other Federal Government College. Saying the school management is intentionally reaping off parents is most unfair as the school management is only following a directive from their supervising ministry as regards the fees.

I have taken my time to investigate and get these findings. i appreciate your efforts and courage but i do sincerely hope you understand my explanations.

parents are to provide the following items as stated in the school's handbook:
two White bedsheets
cutlery n cup
2 pairs of brown for both boys n girls
2 white long sleeve shirts n 2 pairs of White trouser for boys
2 white gowns n White scarf for girls
2 pairs of white shorts and white polos.
as u can see the 9000 naira is not providing any of the items u stated.
16,000 is included in the school fees for the locker n bunk which y said the 9000 naira covered.mind u parents are are still charged 14000 naira for uniforms n from the list above the parents are sewing the uniforms themselves and also paying additional 5500 naira for blazer.the only uniform these children will be given by the school is two pairs of class uniform.
I went to a federal school,my immediate younger sister went to this particular school.I have never seen nor heard about this kind of absurd demands.my neighbours child was asked to bring two bags of cement.
get a copy of their prospectus n hand book n see for yourself.
