Edo Election: We May Leave Our Case To God – Ize-Iyamu

Francis Onoiribholo

Benin – The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just-concluded governorship election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has said that one of the options open to him on the irregularities of the election results is to leave his case to God, just as he appealed to those who might be dissatisfied not to take the laws into their hands or engage in violent demonstrations that may lead to destruction of public property.

Ize-Iyamu who made the appeal in a statement in Benin said he and the party still had many options which include going to the election tribunal, call a World Press Conference to let the world know what transpired, or leave everything to God.

“I appeal to all of us, Edo people who feel dissatisfied not to take the laws into your hands or engage in violent demonstrations or destruction of public property. We still have many options. We can go to the elections tribunal. We can call a World Press Conference to let the world know what transpired or we can leave everything to God,” he said.

According to his statement, he said: “My good people of Edo state, I am Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. I thank each and everyone of you for the wonderful turnout we all saw on September 28 2016 during the Edo state governorship elections.

“Though we have our doubts about the results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, I appreciate your massive turnout which is unprecedented in the history of governorship elections in our state. You defied all fears and threats and turned out to vote the candidate of your choice.

“There is no doubt that the results declared by INEC gives all of us cause for concern. For example, the so-called winner of the elections was credited with less than 320,000 votes while I who INEC claimed lost, was credited with less than 300,000 votes. This is not true.

“The results exposes the fraud orchestrated by INEC. The incident was nothing short of pre-arranged allocation of votes. That is why despite the so-called victory, we are all witnesses to the gloom and sadness that has enveloped the state ever since.

“More than the results of the elections, I thank God that no life was lost before and during the elections, despite all plans by certain political parties. This was our prayer to God that no life should be lost in the course of the elections.

“No matter how you feel, please conduct yourselves in civilised manner because the will of God must prevail. If God says I, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, will be governor, no amount of rigging can stop it. So we must keep hope alive. Let us continue to hope and believe in our country.

“I thank you for the confidence you reposed in me and my running mate, Hon John Yakubu. I believe that democracy remains the best option for us as a people despite all its imperfections. I also believe that we must remain committed to getting it right as a people and a nation.

“I still say the future is now. I salute you and I appreciate your courage. God bless Edo state. And God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

This edo election has be described as one of d most peaceful and free election in Nigeria history by most observers. The only unfair thing was financial inducement by all d political parties especially PDP and APC. Base on this, going to tribunal will most likely be waste of time.

Let see what happened in d next 21 days. I think he has 21 days or 21 working days to go to d tribunal. After 21 days he cant go to tribunal again.

If he goes to court he will lose. I am almost 80% sure he will lose. And i think he knows dat too.

Not going to court may help him to come back and re-contest in 2020 as a "Peace loving man". It may help his image positively.

Ize iyamu is an experienced politician. Any decisions he finally decide will be purely base on political calculation and not on Godliness.

The Igbinedion family won't give u any "shi shi" for a court case that is bound to fail... In this time of recession, one is wise not to venture into a court case only God knows when.

Ize-Iyamu shouldn't bother to seek legal redress for his loss at the polls. The courts these days are reluctant to rock the boat. That's why none of the 2015 gubernatorial elections was upturned despite the avalanche of evidence to do so. He should take the loss in his stride and position himself for the next election.

Which observer? Was it not yesterday the international and local observers condemned the election and even went ahead to say the numbers called by INEC didn't tally with what was on ground.

With people like Abang(APC judge) of Federal high court Abuja your case will be fustrated and thrashed. I support Ize Iyamu on this. Don't bother yourself going to court because you will be fighting with your personal money especially during this recession why your opponent will be using state funds and have enough money to throw around and bribe judges and lawyers.

Leaving the case to God may actually increase your ratings and decrease the healing time.

PDP needs to focus and fast it is to unseat APC in the next elections.

Not going to court shows that all your allegations are false. If you have proof that the election was rigged, do the needful. If you don't have the finance, let us know, some of us have E-money's number on speed dial.

Smart pastor. He knew they lost fair and square. So, why waste money to get the tribunal to confirm the truth and remove all speculation? Only silly wailers think the election was rigged. POI knows better.

POI is a wise man. He knows if he goes to court,GO will be on his toes working hard to put some things in place. But if he POI doesn't go to court,Obaseki will relax and show Edo people how incompetent He is.

POI,God is a better judge than justice Abang. Go to his court.
