An operation in some forests in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State has led to the arrest of 14 armed men, suspected to be kidnappers by some joint security men.

The joint security operation, which comprised the police, in cooperation with a vigilance group, were said to have stormed the criminals’ hideouts in the forests.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Mahmoud Mohammed, said in a statement on Friday that all the suspects were arrested and weapons were also recovered.

Mohammed said two persons taken hostage by the suspects were also rescued alive.

“Police detectives attached to Anti-kidnapping unit/Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Command in collaboration with Danga Security and a vigilance group stormed criminals’ hideouts inhabited by suspected kidnappers at Jauru, Jange, Bahago, Felu and Geji forests, all in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State,” he said.

He gave the names of the suspects as Umar Gwamna, 19; Ibrahim Yahaya, 25; Hussaini Hamisu, 20; Salisu Adamu, 20; Salmanu Hamisu, 23; Ibrahim Hussaini, 25; Abdullahi Hamisu, 23; Yahaya Mai Saje, 21; Lukman Hamisu, 18; Nasiru Halilu, 20; Sani Abdullahi, 35; Musa Audu, 22; Rabiu Adamu, 20; and Mohammed Abdullahi, 40; all of Jana’s District of Toro LGA.

According to the PPRO, items recovered from the suspects included five motorcycles, three fabricated guns, one rifle and four handsets.

He said investigation into the matter had begun after which the suspects would be prosecuted.

The Adamawa State Police Command has said it is fulfilling its promise to keep the state safe by arresting 18 armed robbery suspects in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, stated this while parading the suspects at the command headquarters recently. He said the arrests were made between October 8 and 12, 2016, while they were carrying out their operations.

He said the police had identified all the notorious black spots in the state and that his officers and men were being posted to the areas on a 24-hour operation.

He said, “You would recall that on my assumption of duty as the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, I pledged that my ultimate vision would be to ensure that Adamawa State is safe and secured. It is on this premise that the command re-strategised its operations by putting in place measures to confront all crimes in the state head-on.

“I am pleased to inform you that the measures put in place have started yielding positive results. These undesirable elements that have hitherto robbed people of their valuables unchallenged, particularly along Numan/Lafiya, Numan/Ngurore and Ngurore/Mayo-Belwa Roads are now faced with superior firepower, and this has led to the arrest of seven armed robbers along the identified roads. The others fled. This occurred on October 8 and 9, 2016.

“In the same vein, on October 12, 2016, the same gang of armed robbers that has been terrorising travellers along Ngurore Mayo Inne Road, was also intercepted while carrying out an operation. Four suspects were arrested while others escaped with bullet wounds. The suspects are Adamu Saidu, Muhammadu Anaruwa, Mohammed Sani and Hassan Danmmanu, all of Nyibango village.”
