OKOROCHA FLAGS OFF FREE CATARACT EYE SURGERY PROJECT FOR IMOLITES.

The Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha on Thursday the 20th of October, 2016 officially flagged off the Free Cataract Eye Surgery Project-an initiative of the Imo State Government in collaboration with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation aimed at eradicating visual imparity in the society. The flag off which took place at the Imo Foundation Complex saw a lot of notable personalities in attendance.

Okorocha in his address stated that there were over 80,000 visually impaired individuals in the state and over 10 million in the Federation. He however assured the people that with the continuous partnership of the State Government with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, by the year 2031, there would be no visually impaired people in the state.

The governor reassured Imolites of his administration’s dedication to restoring hope to the hopeless in the state, providing for the sick and downtrodden of the society and ensuring progress and development in the state. He urged the people to remain supportive of the current administration as this would aid in the achievement of his vision for the state.

Governor Okorocha expressed his gratitude to the Commissioner for Health, Barrister Mrs. Ngozi Njoku, describing her efforts towards the successful flag off of the programme as ‘a job well done’.

The Wife Of The Governor, Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha was effusive in her praise of the Commissioner, describing her as ‘a woman passionate about touching the lives of the less privileged, giving hope to the hopeless and putting smiles on the faces of people’. She commended Barrister Njoku on the passion with which she carries out her given assignments, urging her not to relent towards her efforts of ensuring a better Imo health sector.

The First Lady equally showed her appreciation to the governor, thanking him for his thoughts and sacrifices for the people of Imo State. She noted that Imo could only be better when there is growth and development across all sectors of the society.

The Honorable Commissioner for Health, Women Affairs and Social Development; Barrister Mrs. Ngozi Njoku also in her address was full of appreciation for the efforts of the governor and his wife towards the success of the project. Speaking with newsmen, she said that the flag off program was a manifestation of the government’s sensitivity to the plight of the less privileged.

Barrister Njoku stated that the governor had decided it was time to touch the lives of the visually impaired individuals in the state, a decision that has been lauded by individuals and non-governmental associations alike as the project was rounding off in most states of the Federation as a result of the current economic recession the country is currently facing.

On the decision for the complex to house the project rather the Specialist Hospital, she explained that the complex was specifically established to attend to the welfare of the masses, stating that the complex is part of a charity based organization of the government making it the ideal location to house welfare projects such as the cataract eye surgery project. She urged the masses to support the current administration with works and prayer.
