What do u want to encrypt?

1. File Encryption : 1 or many files
2. Zip or Folder Encryption : Many formats, encrypt a whole compressed folder
3. Full Disk encryption or Partition Encryption : Good for your linux install, or any usb drives you want to be carrying info!

So whats encryption:

The translation of data into a secret code. Encryption is the most effective way to achieve data security. To read an encrypted file, you must have access to a secret key or password that enables you to decrypt it. Unencrypted data is called plain text ; encrypted data is referred to as cipher text.

In cryptography, encryption is the process of encoding messages or information in such a way that only authorized parties can read it. Encryption does not of itself prevent interception, but denies the message content to the interceptor.

Now that you know what encryption or cryptography is and you have a basic concept of how it works we can move along! So how do you encrypt a file, folder, or disk!?

Well first i would recommend using linux!

Now i will make a list with the names of the tools, their all open-source, provide many encryption levels and it has no back-door meaning full encryption!

VeraCrypt - Disk Encryption :

VeraCrypt is a source-available freeware utility used for on-the-fly encryption. It can create a virtual encrypted disk within a file or encrypt a partition or the entire storage device with pre-boot authentication.

GNU Privacy Guard - Email Encryption :

AxCrypt is also one pretty good encryption tool that will auto enctypy/decrypt files you select due to it's great integration with Windows.

TrueCrypt can make encrypted partitions on your disk this way not only file content is encrypted than also file and folder names are encrypted too.

VeraCrypt picks up from where TrueCrypt left and it adds enhanced security to the algorithms used for system and partitions encryption making it immune to new developments in brute-force attacks
