While it might have been devoid of the pomp, pageantry and fireworks (her fans were expecting a launch gala or party not this dry launch). Linda Ikeji has successfully rolled out her much-anticipated Linda Ikeji Social network. In Linda's own words, Linda Ikeji Social (LIS for short) is a hybrid of her Linda Ikeji Blog (LIB) and Facebook. The gossip-merchant in a 10-minute LIS intro-video on LIS said she was inspired by an acquaintance who said he couldn't go a day without visiting LIB and Facebook. Linda had a lightbulb moment and LIS was conceived and unleashed on Nigerian social media scene. She assembled a team of developers and the journey to a fully Nigerian-owned social network began.

Teething problems? That comes with the territory and the first early users of LIS encountered is that of logging in. Users can't log-in via email. Your email verification won't arrive till the return of Christ. For a social network being sold like the best thing since Jollof rice, that's so lame. A big fail. Signing up via email doesn't return any inquiry, don't bother, just save yourself the stress and create your LIS account via Facebook.

When you eventually do make it and sign in via Facebook, well, welcome to jungle fever! The page is so busy. Full of everything. Stories, adverts, banner-ads, everything is there. Is this a social network or an ad network? On that account LIS, needs to work on being user-friendly. Facebook has everything but still managed to be visually pleasant, LIS needs to unravel this matter and get more users on board. Don't cram too many things on the page, makes it too 'busy'.

Why drag Nairaland into a social network affair? Why should Nairaland bother about LIS where Facebook and Twitter never cut down in their online followership market? LIS is making a crazy offer Nigerian online forums aren't making. She intends to make paparazzi out of her fans (and every Nigerian online). Imagine getting paid N1,000 for every story vetted and posted on LIS, some young buck can make a killing out of this. All the user has to do is send in an original story backed by pictorial proof/video and kaching! (the sound of a cash register) straight to the bank for LIS users. Everyone with a phone becomes a member of LIS paparazzi and everyone's privacy gets violated like crazy. Nobody's safe from getting clicked anywhere, everywhere. Nairaland gets its posts/contributions free of charge, imagine where all the online traffic goes when LIS starts throwing cash at contributors. That's dangerous for Nairaland but delicious to the Nigerian youth looking for a quick buck.

The potential of LIS is beautifully scary but sounds great if a Nigerian-owned social network kills it, doesn't it? Still watching how it all goes down in the next few days. Linda should get ready to start printing her own money. Who knows, she might be getting listed on the NSE by November 1, 2017

All of a sudden everyone develops a rogue imagination and start contorting different stories to get paid.

Verdict: Failure.
