In 1967 the Igbo people was fed up with your contraption without empathy and justice. They wanted out. They mandated ojukwu to lead them to war having seen his passion in protecting their interest from the time of the genocide till then. it's good you know I'm a spoilt brat using my mom's phone.
Awo engineered a starvation policy by the food blockade that killed 3million Biafran children and also gave only 20 pounds to igbos after the war, thereby keeping their millions for his people. he was hailed for this act by his people who now turn around, like the two - faced hypocrite that they are, to say 'we are one Nigeria'.
Till today no igbo has come out to ask why should a man who committed a war-crime be honored if we are really brothers in Nigeria.
Now your people open their smelly amala and ewedu mouth to question why should a man, who sacrificed his father's wealth to prosecute a war and was even begged to lead his people out of the cesspit called Nigeria, be honored and celebrated by his people.
You afonjas make hypocritical comments and when we stand up to put your oblong head straight you turn around to say we are filled with hatred forgetting that you guys are the fore-runners of hate and envy.
You don't see igbos in any afonja- related thread but check out any igbo related thread: you guys will be crawling like roaches all over it, spewing your hate and envy as usual.

OK kiddo, come lemme school you a little bit in history. You will be shocked that your parents lied to you. Let's go over your rants shall we?

#Fact check 1: " Awo engineered a starvation policy by the food blockade that killed 3million Biafran children"

Reality: Awolowo refused food corridor to the Biafrans for two reasons
a) It was realised that Ojukwu was using that as a ploy to get weapons into the country, under the guise of food and relief materials, to keep prosecuting a war in which his people were mostly the casualty.
b) Most of the food and relief sent to the East to alleviate their sufferings were hijacked and cornered by Ojukwu, his family and the Biafra soldiers.

It is on record that Awolowo was shocked when he saw the starving children and he asked about what had happened to the food sent to the East. It was then he decided to close the food and relief corridor. Google pictures of the war and check out if Ojukwu or any of his family members or the soldiers were looking gaunt and hungry. You sure know how to use Google right?

#Fact check 2: "and also gave only 20 pounds to igbos after the war, thereby keeping their millions for his people. he was hailed for this act by his people who now turn around, like the two - faced hypocrite that they are, to say 'we are one Nigeria'. "

Reality: After the war, Igbos were asked to come forward with proof of how much they had in the bank before the war. Of course, there was no way anybody could prove anything because your hero Ojukwu with his band of soldiers had broken into every bank ( not many at time) in the East and South South and carted away the money.

That was why our currency was changed at that period. In looting these banks, they destroyed records which were paper printed at that time (computer was still a rarity in Nigeria in the 60s)
Now, 20 Pounds was a lot of money in those days. Most of you, when you hear 20Pounds you forget that the exchange rate then was different from what it is now. So, yes, 20 Pounds was more than generous.

What your parents refused to tell you is that, this same Awolowo you guys love to hate, kept all federal allocations that were meant to accrue to the Eastern region during the war period and made sure they were kept and released for the use of the Eastern region after the war, after all, he was the Finance minister at the time.

So guy, you can hate the Yorubas to your heart's content and curse Awolowo all you want. You can denigrate our cuisine which by the way I'm sure your family and your kinsmen are enjoying in the SW.

But the truth will always remain the truth. I don't expect you to believe all I have typed here. But I'm sure you can use Google. So go ahead and do your own research. Stop feeding on the lies handed down to you by your parents.

Dying would have given the northerners the complete satisfaction. Ojukwu started the war as Lt. Col Chukwuemeka odumegwu ojukwu by 1970 he was the walking embodiment of Biafra. He was freedom in real life. The memory of biafra would have died if he died. The Igbo elders knew that that was why they insisted that he left. No Igbo elder dead or alive has refuted that s assertion. He was a lion and you can't catch a lion alive. Your anger with him was that he refused to do for you what you couldn't achieve at the war front. I.e commit suicide. Sorry dear.

You keep writing gibberish. Did the North go to war with the Yorubas at any point in time in Nigeria? Answer the question.
The only time the Northern dominated military messed up with Abiola, the Yorubas put the whole country on the precipice that the country had no choice but to concede the presidential candidates of the two leading parties to them.

Moral lesson: You achieve more with brain and less with brawn. No be the giragira typical of you guy which can and will always lead you to biting of fingers in regret.

Abegii, you can keep celebrating the useless idiot you call hero.

Oh come of it and admit that you people will never have the guts to do what Ojukwu did out of your fear of the North.

Notherners kill the Governor of the Western Region right in Yoruba land, Lt Colonel Fajuyi, a Yoruba man. What did Yorubas do? They shouted "one Nigeria"

Brigadier Ogundipe, another Yoruba man, is supposed to take over after the death of Ironsi. The Northerners chase him away from Lagos, Yorubaland. What did Yorubas do? They shouted " we love one Nigeria"

The Northerners hold all the key Yoruba cities hostage, Lagos, Abeokuta and Ibadan. What do Yorubas do? They shout "one Nigeria, Im not prepared to fight"

Ojukwu boldly declares his people free and prepares to fight no matter what. What do Yorubas do? They say:

" This stupid Igbo man is a coward, instead of him to come and lick the a$$ of the Northerners like us"

Lol, my God. What a people!

You are a rare gem..... With your sole surpervision and leadership you were able to not only stand the national military of nigeria for three years but unwinded the technological stint in you... Which they (the nigerian military) could not do....... Taking a look at the armoured cars and ogbunigwe(aka ojukwu bucket) built by the Biafrans during the war ontheir own, spells my word.... We love you..... And still will.

Hmm..Great innovations but it is a wrong strategy building ammunition during war. It is a wrong strategy to go to war without enough food and planning. A true hero dies with his own people.I will not count myself worthy to live if I lost 3 million of my own people in a war that I started.. Honestly, the war was not necessary.

We insult each other here instead of learning. We need to talk about Biafra. We need to teach it so that we won't make similar mistake again. I am Yoruba and I couldn't find a true Hero from all our past leaders including Awolowo. They all made silly mistakes that brought us to where we are today.

Ojukwu could not equip his army properly, he could not feed his civilians adequately yet he was boasting before the commencement of hostilities that he had the largest army in black Africa and that the other side(Nigeria) would be shocked as to what they would get from him.

Ojukwu, the initiator of the Biafra civil war, who once boasted that he would fight till the last drop of his blood, eventually ran away to Abidjan after commandeering a plane that was meant to airlift sick Biafran children.

Alhaji Shehu Shagari later granted Ojukwu amnesty in 1982. In 1983, Ojukwu contested in the Senatorial election, he also contested in the 2003 and 2007 Presidential elections and lost woefully on all occasions. It is highly prepostrous that a man who fought against Nigeria later came back to Nigeria and participated at various elections in the same country he fought against

LOL, you said it all.

Do a little research OK? He wrote books and books were written about him. So it shouldn't be so hard to get something on him.

first, that wasnt a wrong strategy in the sense that it wasnt an intentional war from the Biafrans : the nigerian govt brought it and it was due to their (nigerian) fault in that they signed an accord they didnt understand. Secondly we must have to correct the mistakes otherwise our own descedants wouldnt find it funny...

I wonder which history your read. Maybe you should read about Awolowo before you make a conclusion that he wasn't a hero.

Let me give you my own personal experience.

I did my NYSC in a village just outside Langtang North in Plateau state.

During one of our bus rides from the FRSC office where we did our cds, the bus driver, a man from Langtang North upon hearing us corpers speak Yoruba started telling us how much Awolowo helped his region, bringing clothes to them cos most of the villagers then in the area went about blissfully naked. And that was a tale from a non-Yoruba.

You probably are too young to really understand the effects that free education had on the development of the Yoruba people.

Most of the enduring roads that crisscross the SW today were built by the late sage when he was Premier.

I'm sure you know about the first television station in Africa located in Ibadan, and so many other achievements. He accomplished these with money from cocoa and not crude oil.

Even Ojukwu called him the best president Nigeria never had.

So, I'm not so sure you know much about history like you claim. No offence. Or maybe we just define the word "hero" differently.

Waris dis wan talking about

Awolowo saved the lives of his people and didn't let his ego get the better of him by not participating in a war that could ruin his people.
He also provided free education for his people which makes the SW the leading region in the country.

Compare that with your hero, Ojukwu.
He led y'all to war because of his ambition to become the ruler of Nigeria.
In the process close to 3 million of you died an unfortunate death.
To top it up, the guy fled from Nigeria as Federal troops got closer to his base um the East, abandoning you and your folks to your death.

I don't blame you though, I know your moral compass as a people doesn't exactly point due North. I came to realise this when I saw the unfortunate support you've been giving to all the past govt officials arrested on allegations of fraud. So I know what you mean when you say "mentor"

Yorubas have a funny way of celebrating the cowardice of Awolowo. He kept you people out of war and saved your lives? But at what cost? By turning your lands over to the Northerners? Thats what cowards do, they do everything to avoid fighting by surrendering even before the fight starts. How can Yorubas sit back, the Northerners go to Ibadan and slaughter the Governor of the Western region and you people say "Im avoiding war"

Very shocking display of cowardice.

Lol. The only way I won't insult you is to assume you're 18 years or less. So, I'm going to assume that because I want to keep this discussion out of the gutters.

Now let me address your post,

Awolowo was reluctant to drag his people into a needless war for several reasons, top of which was the fact that the Nigerian federal capital was located in Yorubaland, Lagos. The implication is that the presence of the Nigerian armed forces was most concentrated in Yoruba land than any other part of the country. (The head of state's residence then was Dodan barracks in Lagos)

If Awo had pushed his people to war, the war would have been fought on our soil and the devastation would have been brutal.

Was that cowardice? No. That was prudence combined with good leadership and a love for his people.

Compare that with what your own "brave" leader did.

Ojukwu prosecuted a war his people had no resources to fight.

He expected his enemy to feed his people while he was simultaneously warring against them.

He cornered the food and aid meant for his people for himself and his family and the soldiers.

Then, when the federal forces advanced closer, he jumped ship, abandoned his people and fled to Côte d'voire, leaving his people to the mercy of the enemy.

Who was the coward between the two?

How did Awo turn our lands over to the Hausas? Because last I checked, all Yoruba states are being governed by Yorubas, yes, including Kwara state.

When your big brothers and uncles are talking about Biafra war at least you can counter them with the points up there OK?...you're welcome. smiley

Circumvention of the truth. Yes its true that Yoruba land had a high concentration of military formations in Yoruba land. There was Ibadan barak, Abeokuta garrison, Ikeja barrak, makoko Barrak and the rest. However, what was at stake here? Yoruba sovereignty was at stake. How can the Yoruba nation allow Northerners to poke them in the eye and hold them hostage in their own ancestral land? The Northerners killed the Governor of the Western Region right in Ibadan. They then proceeded to chase away the highest ranking officer at the time, Brigadier Ogundipe.

At the time, there were not more 5000 Northern Soldiers in Yoruba land. Just 5000 people held millions of Yorubas hostage in their own land

Can you imagine a situation whereby 5000 Northern soldiers in Igbo land would go to Enugu, kill Ojukwu, chase Agu-Iyi Ironsi away, the bring Gowon and say they are going to Govern Nigeria from Enugu, while been surrounded by millions of Igbos?

Tufiakwa! None of them would have left Igbo land alive! How can that sort of thing happen and I say ĺ dont want war because of collateral damage? What pride would I have as an Igbo man that my land is under occupation?

Yorubas willingly submitted them selves to Northern domination right in their own land and Igbos consider this the height of cowardice.

At least Ojukwu fought for three years before he threw in the towel. People like Awolowo and Adebayor threw in the towel even before there was any towel to throw in. Even Colonel Adebayo said he did not sleep in Goverment house for a long time because he thought the Northerners migh slaughter him just like they did Fajuyi.

When a person or peoole cannot fight for their freedom and sovereignty, regardless of if they are prepared or not, such a people are not to be taken serious.

5000 people held millions of Yorubas hostage? No wonder the Northerners were bold enough to slaughter MKO 25 years later. They knew they were dealing with people who have no fight in them

Ha ha ha ........." anybody ke"? Are you for real? Sorry but no takers. we are quite contented perusing from the sidelines.

We've all being there, done that, conjure up a t-shirt and even a video in a bid to eluciadate as much as we could (on the matter) but in the end

(like you) came to a sad realisation that one is just wasting his time discoursing with such a profoundly conditioned soul. Trust me, he will not

smell sh...iii...t even if it's placed right under his nostrils.

Anyway sha, you tried and if it's any consolation, i salute your effort and patience.

Now you are starting to understand why Ojukwu was right to get his people out of 'one Nigeria'. We dont get each other, we dont understand each other and we dont see each others point of view because we are different. We have different outlook on life, different cultures, norms and value system. Whatbis the point of 'one Nigeria'?
