I will go just straight to the point. Why do people of the Urhobo ethnic group deny/denounce their ethnicity, and is it true that the Urhobo ethnic group is mainly made up of witches and wizard?

I am asking because i am an Urhobo boy that has been affected by this show of inferiority. Please your candid opinions will be appreciated.

Tobore,Uhrobo people can never be inferior,we are proud of our heritage.
What you might say is that a lot of our youths don't speak the language due to the fact most grew up outside Uhrobo land.
As for the witchcraft issue, without admitting,it is a common phenomenon in all African societies.

Tobore how many urhobos have you seen denounce the tribe that make easily conclude that urhobos are not proud of being urhobo?

Secondly if you say urhobo is dominated by witches and wizard, then I won't be wrong if I infer you and your family are part.

I have seen many denying to be Uhrobo. Here in Benin, the ones i know are claiming Benin. Even my mum denied being Unrobo after she broke up with my dad(an uhrobo man too) and forced us(the children) to change our names to yoruba names, it was now that we are grown up that we were able to oppose it and it affected my academics so bad. Even my mum's siblings have tried to correct her but she wouldn't listen. As for the witch aspect, we have alot in our family. Now you see the reason for my question?

The many that you have seen in Benin denying urhobo is insignificant to the entire population of the urhobo tribe to come to such conclusion.
I grew up in Lagos and never for once have I seen any urhobo person denying the tribe.

It sounds more personal. The family side.

I really do not have enough experience to form a generalization or even give an opinion

Ok
urhobo are wonderful people. move away from the past and embrace your heritage wholeheartedly and you will have joy and peace.
denying your heritage is like denying yourself. you heal yourself and also your mum as well.
stay bless .
I am proudly urhobo.

Why would your mom (who is not Yoruba) change your Urhobo name to Yoruba names? Your story is incomplete. Finish it.
