Why are many Igbos and yorubas beefing the Hausa language and longtime existence of BBC Hausa?

Hausa language is an international language spoken in up to 5 countries as lingua franca unlike Yoruba or Igbo that are just national languages.

Don't listen to BBC all they would do is continue to broadcast their usual anti-Africa lies and propaganda, only in our native languages.

BBC and VOA was the reason I spent so much money on WR (world receiver) radios when I was growing up. One of my dreams was to own a cable TV when I start working. Before the proliferation of the internet these days the World Receiver radio was my source for foreign news. I thank God I can afford to subscribe to any news channel I want.
I still remember the line "......BBC bush house London."

British crown should do the rightful thing, this entity is illegal, we were forced against our will, one useless British opportunist called lugard came down to west Africa formed an Army called west Africa frontier force, he then used this Army to go on conquest mission to kill,rape, pillage and subjugate our forefathers force them under his control. he then amalgamated everybody without asking the native people of the land if they want to be together , Lugard, having successfully looted the resources of the indigenous people of west Africa whom he bastardised with the name 'Nigerians' returned home to Britain a stupendously rich man and was honoured with the title "Lord". The Nigeria he left behind then became a theatre of blood letting, killings,nepotism,tribalism,ethnic supremacy,economic stagnation,exploitation,sectarian strife,civil war and downright bigotry of the highest order, I'm sorry to say that Nigeria is a failed British experiment ....

This is not about nations but about the population of the speakers of each language.

Long overdue. Worry is just that most southerners have better choice than bbc. There are tons and tons of radio stations with better content that at the end of the day, BBC might not even have the audience as such.

The additional African languages will be Afaan Oromo, spoken in Ethiopia and other countries, Amharic, also a major Ethiopian language, Tigrinya, the main language of Eritrea, and Nigerian languages Igbo, Yoruba and Pidgin, which are also spoken in other West African countries.

The World Service will also add Indian languages Gujarati, Marathi and Telugu, as well as Punjabi which is widely spoken in Pakistan and parts of India, and Korean, spoken in both North and South Korea.

The BBC will also extend its news bulletins in Russian, with regionalised versions for surrounding countries, add regional programming in Arabic and short-wave and medium-wave radio programmes aimed at audiences in the Korean peninsula.

It feels really good to come from a majority tribe. Yes, coming from a populous tribe means you are most likely going to see someone who can speak your language anywhere in the world (yes, you read that right!) and more opportunities will be created for people who speak the language, voting advantage, amongst other benefits.

All I see here is more jobs for Igbo and Yoruba speakers in Nigeria and beyond.

You are naive and probably young. The BBC is, like virtually, every media station in the world, a propaganda outlet. They have thrived over the years on having a monopoly which is now being challenged by emerging outlets like AlJazeera and Russia Today which ,too, are propagandists as well but we can now see them all for what they truly are . If the BBC tells you there is an earthquake in Japan they are probably correct but when they are telling you about the war in Syria ,or Ukraine or US elections and so on they invariably have an agenda. When they DO NOT TELL you about what is happening whether it be in Palestine,or Yemen and so on again they are playing out an agenda.Everything we are told about Mugabe is shaped by the likes of the BBC .How much of it is true ? We will never know. Does the BBC tell us about the civillians killed in Iraq or Afghanistan or even Yemen.

If you believe that the BBC is informing and educating then you are a victim. My Suggestion: listen to the BBC but also listen to AlJazeera ,and Russia today and what the Chinese have to say . You will come to realize that the BBC is nothing more than a polished NTA doing the bidding of its government just like all these other outlets and their ultimate objective is the BRITISH National interest. In fact if Nigeria wants to be great we need to modernize NTA and use it to project power across Africa just like AlJazeera.
It is ultimately a tool and not an altruistic enterprise.

If the BBC is expanding then that is part of an overall strategy called the "battle for minds and cultural domination". Essentially taking over the cultural DNA and minds of a people and people like you are evidence of success of such brainwashing.

Having storytellers is just as important as having an army Russia has realized this and have taken the battle to the West with Russia Today and they are not liking it. We in the middle should see things as they really are through OUR OWN EYES and not anyone else's

What is going on right now is a battle for who is to be the world's story teller and we are too blind to even notice.
Why can't we modernize NTA and tell the world our own version of reality. Why must we accept their version?

Your are right they are the 3 major langues in Nigeria but Hausa is amongst the major language in Africa and second most populous after Swahili.

They are looking for friends now that EU is no longer available for them.

Now they are remembering the ex-colony after they realize the impact of their brexit.

As a result of Brexit, that bridge is about to be broken, so having good links with the UK will become less important.

"As we move towards our centenary, my vision is of a confident, outward-looking BBC which brings the best of our independent, impartial journalism and world-class entertainment to half a billion people around the world.

"Today is a key step towards that aim." The plans include the expansion of digital services to offer more mobile and video content and a greater social media presence.

On Wednesday the BBC launches a full digital service in Thai, following the success of a Facebook-only "pop-up" service launched in 2014.

Other expansion plans include: extended news bulletins in Russian, with regionalised versions for surrounding countries enhanced television services across Africa, including more then 30 new TV programmes for partner broadcasters across sub-Saharan Africa new regional programming from BBC Arabic short-wave and medium-wave radio programmes aimed at audiences in the Korean peninsula, plus online and social media content investment in World Service English, with new programmes, more original journalism, and a broader agenda

Fran Unsworth, the BBC's World Service director, said: "Through war, revolution and global change, people around the world have relied on the World Service for independent, trusted, impartial news.

"As an independent broadcaster, we remain as relevant as ever in the 21st Century, when in many places there is not more free expression, but less.

"Today's announcement is about transforming the World Service by investing for the future.

"We must follow our audience, who consume the news in changing ways; an increasing number of people are watching the World Service on TV, and many services are now digital-only.

"We will be able to speed up our digital transformation, especially for younger audiences, and we will continue to invest in video news bulletins.

"What will not change is our commitment to independent, impartial journalism."

The new language services mean the BBC World Service will be available in 40 languages, including English.

Lord Hall has set a target for the BBC to reach 500 million people worldwide by its centenary in 2022.
