I think i partially agree with you. Though in this case, i can attest that the Ijaws were ill treated by the colonial authorities in collaboration with the Itsekiri establishment at the time, but i see no reason why they should transfer aggression on Urhobos who have hitherto being friendlier and even gave them land to settle. Infact, ,any families on bot sides are related by blood. Maybe they think that Aladja or it's surrounding villages can be easily annexed just because they have fire power due to militancy... I laugh. Warri people say, e don tey wey yansh dey back. Well, just as i told Barcanista just now, it'll be good if the Ijaws and Urhobos respect this ultimatum before the matter is properly settled. The Ijaws are increasingly becoming too provocative i must say.

Well said. I couldn't have said it any better.

Tonye, I'll advise that you be more practical here. I myself am Urhobo and where i live is just a river crossing from Aladja. According to history, due to the close marital ties between Aladja and the Ijaws of Okrotomu(today's Ogbe-Ijaw), the Urhobos of Aladja harbored them and the land where they are now with a well defined border. The Ijaws of Ogbe-Ijaw today were actually living in today's main Warri township by the river, bordering the Urhobo people of Agbarha but they were forcefully relocated by the British in collaboration with the Itsekiri who were their closest partners then during the colonial days. The Ijaws are encroaching into Aladja land and the Urhobos will not give way, hence this problem. I don't want to believe the Urhobos of Aladja did evil by harboring the Ijaw people when others rejected them. There's been a conflict between Ogbe-Ijaw and Aladja before... we know how e take end. The Ijaws were also the 1st aggressors then(u may not agree). Urhobos had to leave Ijawlands along the Forcados and Escravos Rivers, some died, som,e lost properties, likewise Ijaws too in Urhoboland within the Udu axis suffered. Ogbe-Ijaw was burnt to some extent. No be Aladja people Ijaw go blame, na Oyibo and Itsekiri nai do them.
Talking about going to court, Aladja has won a court case against Isaba(one of the Ijaw villages fighting Aladja presently) before convincingly. Why then have they decided to take up arms against Aladja alongside Ogbe-Ijaw? First Aladja main town was being attacked but maybe due to stiff resistance and proximity, they've resorted to attacking Aladja villages of Ayama and Epame. The Aladja people, during that first crisis had to evacuate an Ijaw settlement within Aladja territory called Otombo during that period... You can find out. The Ijaws appear to be intoxicated with the weapons they have and are becoming frustratingly emboldened in recent times.
There are some reports from commissions of enquiry about this Aladja vs Ogbe-Ijaw matter which i believe when and if wisely implemented will go a long way in solving these problems from the roots. I too believe in the Sanctity of the court rooms but for now, it'll be in our best interest to do as the Ighelle-Urhobo have opined- make everybody withdraw to him place until the state govt. finds a lasting solution to this matter.
There's a sizable Ijaw pollution in Urhoboland within Udu especially(Ovwian, Ujevwu, Owhase, Ekete, Orhuwhorun, Aladja etc) just as there're Urhobos in Ijaw areas too. For both our sakes and that of our people and for peace to reign... Prevention is better than cure.

I'm not surprised to see that the British are right at the centre of this matter. Are the Itserikis still living where the Ijaws used to live?

I am not after who is right and who is wrong, but I'm against the ridiculous ultimatum. Nobody has monopoly of violence, not Ijaw and not Urhobo. Should there be crises, both sides will lose. But of what gain?

There are better ways of resolving disputes. Violence or ultimatum should be last resort

He lived a fulfilled life and received the most celebrated burial in Nigeria's recent history.

Awo died a coward who ran away from life to avoid confronting his adversaries, to avoid dealing with the ignominy of his failures, to avoid accepting the fact that for the second time in history, he was guilty of treason.

Awo was a disgrace.

Nonsense empty chest-beating ultimatum!

The Ijaws residing peacefully in Udu and all parts of Urhoboland should discard this empty threat by these clowns that doesn't represent the patriotic interest of Urhobo people.

If they cannot peacefully resolve their differences, they should go to court...

The jaws of those areas don't know where the court rooms are. They prefer to settle scores by violence. Do you know how many times they have attacked Aladja?

I just don't know why those folks like war and crisis this much.

The only thing that can be done now is for the state government and federal government to step in, before it escalate to other places.

so bravery is when u run away from war front nd leave ur people to die like fowl in land of ugandans.at least awolowo won the support of all s.west region during the first republic but during ojukwu time he could not win his state.

fucck off my mention kid
so why order for rat poison from aba?? dude was jail bound for second time, he could have fought than drink rat poison. Ojukwu was at the war front for three years and saved his people from total annihilation as planned by awolowo. Later sent Aba boys to give Awo rat poison since he could not fight

Ah! I no talk say heaven go fall b4 o. But you should know that what's happening here is other Urhobos showing solidarity with the people of Aladja with Udu as the starting point. No be only Ogbe-Ijaw get brothers o. Tonye, tell your Ijaw brothers to stop attacking Urhobo villages and seek better ways to address these grievances... Is that too much to ask? U dey make mouth 4 here. Do you live in Udu, Warri or anywhere in Urhoboland? Na wa.
For your info, a good number of Ijaws have left Ovwian and surroundings already b4 this incident. Even in markets and public places in Warri, one can observe that the atmosphere is tensed already. My position is hinged on the need to avoid rather than cure... I pray it doesn't get to that level though.

Nobody has the monopoly of violence. Ijaws should stop attacking Urhoboland.

Period.

Tonye never represents the Niger-Delta in my opinion. He's best representing Ijaw interest as you can see here. Instead of looking at the issue and suggesting ways the problem can be solved, he's here taking sides and totally ignoring the issue of violence against Urhobo communities perpetrated by the Ijaws.

That Tonye guy no go here. He's supporting the violence. If there's one thing i like about the modern Urhobo relating with ethnic neighbours, violence is always a last resort. Maybe Aladja will have to take up arms fully too, you can see other Urhobos are already showing solidarity.
The Ijaws tried these rubbish after the so-called Kaiama declaration in Gbaregolor and Okwabge in Ughelli South amongst other Urhobo areas. They failed woefully and were defeated, they've dared Aladja before and we know how it ended. This one too will come to an end, how, we do not know.
I just pray the govt. steps up to arrest the situation as soon as possible.

Violence is nobody's preserve.

Yeah, the British caused a lot pf problems for us in the western Delta, the Awo-led western in some instances even worsened the situation.
Yes, the Ijaws are still there partially but it's govt land since it was handed down by the colonial govt. It's around where you find Ogbe-Ijaw market today in Warri.

Oga Tonye, it's like you don't know what's happening. Violence has always been the first resort for the Ijaw side in this crisis. The Urhobos are just expressing their frustration. Aladja has been consistently attacked for close to a year now by Ogbe-Ijaw boys, a few people have lost their lives on both sides with other injured, communities have been displaced because of fear. Mainly hit and run attacks. Some Ijaw people sef dey run comot Ogbe-Ijaw, fearing reprisals... At a point, it became a situation where you only find few women and children in both communities, mostly men remained. Now, the state govt intervened and there's been some calm for about 2-3 months or so, but sadly attacks have resumed. Isaba village have joined in the attacks and now, the 2 Aladja villages of Epame and Ayama are now been attacked by the Ijaws of Ogbe and Isaba. The Urhobos have actually shown a lot of restraint. It is becoming unbearable hence the outburst.
Look the matter well abeg.
