I could have been long gone
I could have been a song left unsung
I could have been part of life history
Sojourning far in the world of mystery

But for the eyes that watch day and night
And for the hand that leads me daily aright
I could have been seen lost for ages
Died, existing only on paper pages

When dark forces unseen silently rage
Then His banners of love unseen fiercely cage
And if not under Christ's jealous guide
Certainly by now, the grave is where I'ld reside
