My name is James(not real name). I just opened this account to tell you my story though am a popular nairalander here. Let me get into my details: I am 2* years old from a polygamous family. After my final year and B Sc. Degree. I got married to my love(a graduate). I had a business(web design biz) before I got married. Before I went for my NYSC, my dad convinced me not to move my pregnant wife-then away from his house. Though I am financially able to rent any flat of my choice. He cited reasons like I should allow them take care of my wife during my service or because of her condition.(I was posted to sokoto state). To cut a long story short; my wife and child stay in my father's house. After my service, my dad insisted that I should further my education because I graduated with a 1st class degree at a private university here in Nigeria. Am due to finish my masters in the next 8 months. The problem is that;my dad reacts negatively whenever he knows am coming home like he does not want me to come to the house. Also, his wife whom is my stepmother always pick up quarrels with me whenever am around and my wife as well whenever am not around. My dad takes sides with his wife and whenever am involved in any quarrel, I always get 95% blame. The thing is; I have been feeling depressed for a while now but am very careful not to allow that affect my academics. Nairalanders what should I do? 1 Like 1 Share |

The solution is simple. Don't disrespect your dad and his wife. Just say ... Dad I'm a man, a married one for that matter. I want to move my family to my own rented apartment as a man should. That's all and all the quarrel yawa would end. 4 Likes |

You dont need his permission to move out..what he needs is an announcement... you still have 8 months almost a year...rent a flat close to where you school,tell your dad you've gotten an apartment and would like to take your wife,thank him and LEAVE.. typing this from the inner part of my heart. i got married to my husbnd hiles he was a student in china.his parents convinced him to make me stay with them.at the end of the day it was hell for me in that house. my husband had to quickly arrange for me to join him abroad. please find ways and means to get ur wife close to urself so dat she wont be disturbed.by doing that i assure u u wil have ur peace of mind.ur dad wont be happy ur wife is going to finally be with u,but trust me he will get used to it. princejameslee1: |
