I got a parrot last december and since then,I've only allowed hm out of the cage twice and getting him back in,was a pooblem. Recently,I decided to start leavng the cage open so it can come out and learn how to fly. He came out yesterday and refused to go in,but ran to hide in one f the flowers. I left him out based on addy from my dad but at 12:30am,the bird screamed so lound in distress and b the tine I came out,something had bitten himand left the leg deformed. There are wounds on the body,hairs gone out and he's quite weak. He isn't eating at all. What do we do? How do I treat the sore on the body and keep the bird alive?

You should take the parrot to a vet doctor asap. I'm guessing that the vets that handle chickens may be able to help your parrot.

Meanwhile, I would recommend cleaning the wounds with hydrogen peroxide or NCP and offering him water and his favorite food.

You need to take the parrot to a vet, hopefully they can administer intravenous fluids to keep the bird alive.. Time is of the essence bro. The poor thing probably got attacked by rats or neighborhood cats.. African greys ( I.e if that's what you have) are very sturdy birds..

If he was attacked by a cat, he needs antibiotics asap. Cat saliva contains a bacteria that's toxic to parrots. The vet should know what to do.

Lord I hate cats. Anything nocturnal; cats, rats, owls, gosh!

I don't know what attacked him but I suspect a rat. The vet I took him to said he can't give injection else the bird wll die. He askd me to mix tetracycline n water,and give to the bird.
