John Grisham is now a hack. His recent books are just plain boring and cannot be compared to his early books when he was still getting known.

Try and compare "A Time to Kill" or "The Firm" to any of his new ones especially that rubbish "Tort King"

Sometimes when people succeed their quality goes down.

Currently I am now into Fantasy books, the best are the three sagas below.

Steven Eriksson - Malazan book of the Fallen
George RR Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire
R Scott Bakker - The Prince of Nothing

i havent read any of his recent works but if its true then i think we should all complain so loud that he hears and make a positive change.

on second thought, i want to excuse him. maybe these times are his off/dry season. everyone experiences such once in a while. from movie stars to authors, from footballers to everyday people like me. times when you just dont get it right no matter what you do.
want to believe that this will pass and he'll bounce back again!

@ gentleone,
when you do, pls come back to tell us what you think of it. meanwhile i have started on "shall we tell the president"

@ nicetohave,
i sincerely hope this isnt the end of the road for Grisham, no, he is too good an author to go down this early and this way and i love him too much to believe anything else. wink

Hi Trae_z,
I got this from you:

I guess I'm a walking encyclopedia on relationships and self-help issues , and don't you forget it.

It is striking for me to know that someone has same interest as me. I wouldn't say I'm an encyclopedia, but a passionate student of Relationship & Personal Development. Do we sound alike to you? I like to read books along this line alot. Generally anything on relationships, be it romance or books on how-to, e.g Fine Art of Friendship, Bonds of Iron etc and Personal Development e.g The Real Man by Edwin L Cole, The Purpose and Power of a Man, The Purpose and power of Women both by Myles Munroe, I also consider what most persons regard as motivationals as personal development books. My favorites here include AS A Man Thinketh - James Alen, Acres Of Diamond, Message from a Master. I can send soft copy of any of the last three if you are interested, they are free. How about that?

Guy you really are cool! I mean this thing about you and me - I love cyber stuff as well, as a matter of fact I learning standard HTML and looking for a Frontpage tutorial. I'm right now on your site and you did great job here!I will write you a mail so that you can get my e-mail addresss.

Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by Littleone(m): 12:03pm On Jan 05, 2006
I have gotten involved so much in Tom Clancy books in the last 3 months. Some are sure do exciting but some are too detailed and boring. I sure do am into Jonathan Kellerman but the old authors are still exciting. Have anyone read a copy of Francis Dick's Come to Grief and Brian Garfield's Hopscotch?
Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by nferyn(m): 1:58pm On Jan 05, 2006
The Sum of all Fears was Clancy at his best. You cannot possibly compare it to the lame movie adaptation they made afterwards.
Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by Z4M4eva(f): 2:01pm On Jan 05, 2006

I've got some of his books as well.
He knows how to keep a plot exiting, but his writing skills are subpar. He should get a ghostwriter (same thing goes for Clancy).
Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by damygurl(f): 10:43pm On Jan 05, 2006
i don't think i've read any clancy books but dale is one of my fav now and i can't wait to read Plan of Attack.
Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by nferyn(m): 10:52pm On Jan 05, 2006
Clancy is a little bit better in character development. Dale Brown is just... adrenaline. Fun read though. If you like Dale Brown, you will surely like Clancy's The Bear and The Dragon
Another good author in the military thriller sphere is Andy Mc. Nab, who used to be SAS. He focusses more on the characters, less of a techno-whizz. The atmosphere of Mc. Nab's books (only his fiction) is kind of like Humphrey Bogard / Film Noir style.
Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by damygurl(f): 11:13pm On Jan 05, 2006
i should probably confess now. i'm not dat into d military stuff Dale is d first one i'm gon read. it took me like 2 monyths to finally open it and after i read a couple of pages i liked it. it wasn't wat i expected cuz d title threw me off and gave me diz idea of wat it's gon be like.
if clancy writes like dale does i'm not saying it gotta be like d same but having a lil bit of everything in it, suspense, mystery, romance and drama. then i know i'm gon luv it.

i will try the bear and d dragon one who knows i mght like it too.
Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by nferyn(m): 11:34pm On Jan 05, 2006
I was suprised to find out that you liked Dale Brown. He's not a women's author at all, on the contrary. If you're looking for the same kind of suspense, but with a better developed plot and characters, go for Clancy.
The Clancy novel that has most suspense, mystery, drama and especially romance is Without Remorse, the first in the Jack Ryan series.
