Group complains of high fertility in African women


Partners in Population and Development (PPD), an intergovernmental organisation of developing countries under the aegis of South-South Cooperation has expressed concern over the steady growth of population in Africa occasioned by high fertility among women in the continent.

Speaking at a one day national workshop on Reproductive Health on South-South Cooperation in Abuja yesterday, the Executive Director of PPD, Bangladesh, Mr Harry Jooseery, said that the impressive gains achieved in reproductive health program, especially fallen fertility rate in the world over the years were being eroded by certain practices in Africa.

He said in the 60s, Nigeria was above 50 million in population as with Britain but that by 2000, while Britain was barely 62 million, Nigeria doubled to over 100 million.

The workshop was organised by the National Planning Commission in collaboration with Partners in Population and Development (PPD) and UNFPA.

Statistics presented by Mr Harry showed that Africa has the highest fertility rate in the world with five to six births per women.

He said there is need to reposition family planning into development agenda as “no development is sustainable unless we address reproductive health and population issues,” adding that Nigeria was well positioned in terms of man power and resources to champion the cause its people and Africa liberation from poverty and deprivation.

That is cos when we are stressed, we wont kill ourself, we will just have good sex with no condom and make babies.
Jokes apart, i think there is a true need for family planning, cos there are too many people making babies and yet have nothing to give them.

I don't think it's a matter of fertility but the avoidance of contraceptives.

cos they have nothing to lose, they are already at the bottom of the ladder of life and dont care no more.
They have no money to go on vacation, nothing to enjoy, so all they have is the warmth of the body of their woman and they make sure they enjoy it to the last. . . . sad though, cos why would they wanna bring so much kids to this world and yet have nothing to take care of them?

I know some mother of the wives that has told the man that if he is not capable of making more babies, that is not nice.
I remember my grandmother on my father's side, she used to bother my father that only 3 kids is not good enuf, that is why i wanna double my dad's and show him that i am the man

That is because we don't do what we preach, see Tuface advertising for Goldcircle condom yet he has kids with five different women. Being fertile is a blessing to any woman and no body should complain. The issue has to do with ones reasoning and perspective on the issue surrounding sex.
For me, i would rather have many kids than search the whole world looking for solution (child).

Leave African women alone, that is how they are created.

I just think such men are stupid, cos for all they know these women cld be HIV positive or carrier of some other deadly diseases.

Please people lets note the following:

- Over population only occurs when there is no resources to go round.

- The reality is that there is more than enough resources in the world to take care of the current and immediate future populations of the world. There is poverty and focus on population because certain individuals are hoarding the resources and keeping it to themselves at the deteriment of the general population.

- Europeans are complaining about population not because they care about others but becuase their own population is not growing as much.

- People we need to understand that a white man is first and foremost a self-centered meglomaniac, hence when he is talking about population and fertility he is talking about it from the perspective of giving himself and his own white people a demographic advantage. European fertility rates is dropping hence they are worried that they might become extinct soon as far as demography goes.

people here want to have tons of children because they have been conditioned to think that is thier purpose in life. abortion is not an option for most people, lack of knowledge on human reproductive system, lack of contraceptives or the beliefe that they should not be used in a marriage or that they are "posioned". men flat out refuse to have surgical birthcontrol on themselves because "that a womans job" while women have limited resources here to have surgical birth control due to medical misfalls and/or cultural limitations. the few who do manage to have some form of surgical birthcontrol have limited understanding or medical avalability to deal with the complications (much more likely in women then men, sorry guys safer for you to get your tubes tied plus much much cheeper).
