Why Christians Should Reject The Bill For A Christian Court In Nigeria by alBHAGDADI: 5:07am On Dec 07, 2016
Why Christians should reject the bill for a Christian court in Nigeria

1. It is Satan's approach

Christians setting up a court for themselves is equivalent to dumping God's provided way of doing things and adopting Satan's approach. God has made it clear that we should settle our disputes in the church and it should be done by the elders.

1 Corinthians 1:6
If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord's people?

2. Its result won't help christianity

The result of Nigeria having a Christian court won't help the christian course it might pose to want to help. It's the same way Christian churches build universities that are of no help to Christianity but a business venture that the poor cannot partake in. We've all seen the huge mistake of Christian churches owning schools. The call for a Christian court, by a few, is almost like calling for Christians to have their own Armed Forces. Christianity does not operate like the world does.

3. We never clamoured for it

I can't seem to see where Christians clamoured for a Christian court, the equivalent of a Muslim Sharia court. Then why is a certain house of representative, Hon. Gyang Dung, pushing this bill in the National Assembly? Have we told him that we are fed up of God's own approach to doing things and now want to set up our own worldly way?

4. It is a ploy to push a hidden agenda

The bill passed a 2nd reading. Once this bill is passed into law, it will definitely amend the constitution of the nation. This is exactly what the Sharia proponents have been able finding difficult to achieve. Amending the constitution will see the christian court to appear in all states of the federation, even in the core northern states. This is something Muslims will take advantage of by pushing for a Sharia court bill, which if passed, will allow Sharia to get out of its caged hole in the Muslim north and spread to the christian south, a thing it seriously desires. It means that Christians have foolishly helped what they fear, simply because they failed to adhere to their God's standard which is settling disputes in the church and by elders, not in a court.

5. The court will be useless in Nigeria

It will be useless in the South because true Christians are ordered to forgive each other and not strive against each other. This will make the courts have less cases to settle. What about in the North? We are already seeing churches getting burnt in the North. Such courts will hold no value over there cos the illiterate Northerners won't mind discarding whatever judgment it issues as long as it doesn't favour their fellow Muslim. But if their Sharia court should have access to the south, a northerner based in the south will prefer to take a case against a Christian to Sharia courts instead of a secular court. The sad part is that the case will go through proceedings without interference, unlike in the north where an angry illiterate mob can disrupt proceedings of a Christian court just as we see them burn churches who worship on Fridays.

6. Our clamour is for the abolishment of religious courts

This is what Hon Gyang Dung should be pushing in the National Assembly. The current Sharia courts do not favour people of other religion when they are dragged to it. This could be attributed to a word in their Quran which says Muslims are to be kind with one another but harsh or severe to the unbelievers.

Quran 48:29
Mohammed is the messenger of Allah and those with him are HARSH against the DISBELIEVERS but MERCIFUL among THEMSELVES.

But I can assure you that Muslims will get fair justice if dragged to the proposed Christian court, cos Christians are God's children who should be like God who show no partiality.

English Standard Version
Romans 2:11
"For God shows no partiality."

Every Christian should rise up against this bill cos it doesn't represent Christianity but a dark force with an aim of luring Christians away from their God provided standard.

Why do most of you beg that your post should be moved to a front page? When a post is wealthy and a front page worthy, you don't need to plead with any mod to shift it to a front page.

Most of your points are true.. ..I seriously don't see the need for it; we're not in competition for crying out loud!

If they're reading this, I'll call on our top and respected church leaders to speak up now.. .they shouldn't wait till when we start experiencing the negative side of this ungodly moves before they cry out. Matters that cannot be settled in the church can't be even settled in a human court no matter how you call such court!

But who asked for a christian court? who will be the judge? what law will they use? and what kind of offence will be prosecuted and punishable under the law? where else in the world do they have this kind of court? These and many more are the questions nigerians need to ask this fellows.
Our leaders keep chasing shadows when there are more important issues to deliberate and legislate upon. They have thrown their reasoning and the love of Nigerians to the dogs for the satisfaction of the interest of a common few.
Christianity preaches tolerance, forgiveness, kindness and patience. So i wonder why they want to revert us back to the old testament laws of an eye for an eye. The bible emphasized forgiveness to those who tresspass against you even as your heavenly father will also forgive you.

This particular post is wealthy and worthy enough to grace front page, cos it is about a burning issue that calls for serious concern. At least, it is better than the kind of topics that grace front page nowadays e.g "See What Omotola Ate This Morning".

@OP I feel your point. The silly Hon Gyang Dung is not pushing a bill that represents the people. He is only pushing an agenda he clearly knows nothing about. He doesn't know that, or perhaps knows, that the bill is a typical representation of the saying "The hand of Esau but the Voice of Jacob". That Bill is truly sponsored by the Muslims who are it as a means to paveway for Sharia to be implemented in all 36 states of Nigeria.

We might all wake up and see Sharia in Christian dominated states like Lagos, Anambra, Oyo Enugu, Abia etc.

We are Christians and we should live by the commands of Jesus Christ, not by that of a court posing as Christian. What makes us all think the judges that will be appointed wont be corrupted with money?

Pls, don't be carried away by sentiments to the extent of forgetting what we are- Christians. We live by the Bible principles, and since there's nothing in it that supports a Christian court, then we really do Not need it. Except, like the OP said, you want us to abandon God just to compete with the Muslims.

Is there even anything like a Christian court in all the other Christian countries and the ones that brought the religion to Nigeria?

Accepting it is indeed Satanic cos it is sure not enshrined in any of the Christian doctrines.

My brother I don't think we are on the same spiritual wavelength here, maybe you need to read your bible first before you form any stance. Go and read 1 corinthians 6:1 thoroughly, A Christian court will have Christians presiding over it and not Muslims or any other religions, this is what makes it a Christian court, who are you then to call them ungodly?

If 1 Corinthians 6:1 is what you are quoting, then Am sorry sister, you have quoted that verse wrongly.

That verse speaks of a structure already in place, which is a Christian CHURCH and it's elders, not a Christian COURT.

a Christian court will be recognised by the government and is most likely going to make use of worldly laws to execute cases. If no, then ask yourself, what biblical laws will this court be making use of? The old testament laws of stoning and an eye for an eye?

By the constitution, Christians CANNOT be tried under sharia law. Let me know if you have heard of such a case.

Exactly my thoughts. If the Christians have their courts as the Muslims have theirs too, then the regular court will be for whom?

If a Muslim refused to be judged except in a sharia court and likewise a christian except in a christian court, should there be a case between a christian and a Muslim, how will it be handled?

Why will any sane country put religion above national interest? Does Nigeria have a constition? What role will the constitution play if these viral courts are set against each other?

See why I said this country is not working? An average Nigerian should be a Nigerian first before he/she becomes a Christian or Muslim.

And what binds us together as Nigerians is the constitution. The constitution is a common ground for Nigerians of all faith and tribes. The regular court upholds the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

So, my recommendation is that we should have christian and Muslim lawyers to render trials and judgement of people according to their religion within the ambit of the law as provided by the Nigerian constitution.

BTW when witnessing in court, it will be proper to use the constitution to swear rather than any of the holy books.

Re: Why Christians Should Reject The Bill For A Christian Court In Nigeria by SmartyPants(m): 12:42pm On Dec 07, 2016
I don't see the need for a christian court since firstly, we Christians are very strongly encouraged to settle out of court (1. Jesus said agree with your adversary while you are on the way and 2. Paul said it is wrong for us to go to court when we have elders in the Church) and secondly much of the doctrines of the English legal system which we have largely adopted, are based on Christian principles.

However, to correct the OP with regards to his fear that Moslems would disregard the judgments of Christian courts, while Sharia Courts would finally proliferate in the South, what you have to understand is that religious courts in Nigeria are open only to those who accept them. That is, if you are not a Moslem no one can drag you before a Sharia Court. Unless there in a state where Sharia law is fully implemented, which i am not aware of.

Which means Christians will be throwing each other in jail, cos that is the punishment for such offences. Why not leave that to the secular courts?
