An Ex-illegal Immigrant: A Vivid And Detailed Account by BOmokaro: 11:48pm On Nov 12, 2009
I am about to start a narrative of what I went through in my decision to leave Nigeria, I am more interested in giving out information than fighting with fellow forum members. I am sure at the end of my tale , other younger folks will make a just decision about their future. Please do not get me wrong , my information will not be bias as I now hold a British passport and a Nigeria passport as well.

    - The key point is that my life will be compared to my mates I left behind in Nigeria
can I actually say I am better than them.
    - Do you really need to leave Nigeria
    - The different categories of Nigerians that choose to migrate
    - coming back to Nigeria to start a business

The Calling
It all started with a single advert by the family of an elderly man who has passed to the great beyond. The advert had all the usual obituary overtones but the occupation of the children stirred a great commotion among my class mates.
“ Our great father who passed away is survived by 23 children , 56 grand children and 15 great grand children.
The children are
1 Oxxxxx xxxxx resides in Osaka Japan
2 Ujdddd dfhfhd resides in Atlanta USA
3 Harxxx xxxxx resides in Basel Switzerland
4 Mdkdd xxxxx resides in London UK
5 Dakddd xxxxx resides in London UK
6 Hkdkdd xxxxx resides in Toronto Canada
7 Gjdjddf xxxxx resides in Amsterdam Holland
. . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . .
23 Yajdfd xxxxxx resides in Graz Austria”

All the 23 children were all away from Nigeria, this advert was taken out over the radio, television and the papers for weeks. There was no mention of any of the children as a maths teacher, dentist, engineer, web application developer or a pastor. This set the precedent in my town, when ever an elderly individual ascends to the land of our ancestors the destination of the children outside Nigeria became the point of emphasis on the advert. Some of the children will actually invade the town during the burial ceremonies with their convoy of second hand cars, pierced ears with gold studs, weaved hairdo for guys and toned muscled body. This is the era in Nigeria when there was a complete absence of the middle class, the salary scale was so unfair then that the Maths teacher and co found themselves in a very strange economic environment.
This eats away into the imagination of a young mind, it affected my concentration as a student. Then I was in my 300 levels in Maths, my Mth 361 complex analysis actually became complex. I started thinking about Belgium, Amsterdam, London, Toronto, New York even though I have never been there in my life. Years of hearing tales about Osaka, Manchester , Hamburg finally caught up with me, my mind has been made I have had the calling.

Sorry everyone my home network is not reliable any more since some area boys around Bexleyheath went to tamper with out transformer a couple of months ago. I have to confess we were without electricity power for four days . It was a nightmare EDF was taken by surprise they could not just figure how to get us back to the grid. The banks were shut , Natwest, Barclays, Nationwide they could not offer service to their customers around my area. The great ASDA supermarket was closed down, and if you live around my area you know what ASDA means to pensioners who survives on their limited pension fund. But I have to say thanks to Morrisons in Erith , through the four days they were never closed for a minute they ensured access to my fruits were not interrupted. What now beats my head is that if it takes some of the best engineers in the world four days to restore back power to us and without any of the officials diverting some of the money away, then we have to think about the situation in Nigeria very carefully. Do we really have the technical know how to ensure uninterrupted power supply or is it just about throwing billions of dollars on the project.
Please once again do not get me wrong this is the only power interruption I have ever experienced in this country, I am sure it might not happen again in my life time if the “boyz n d hood” around Bexley can be kept in line.

Now let me get back to my story , let me write more before my home network shuts down.
