I am surprised that some people are wishing me dead, I am still alive -
November 17, 2009

Mrs. Maryam Babangida, wife of General Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria's ex-military president, responded to rumours that she had had died at the University of California (UCLA) Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles over complications from terminal cancer. She called the rumours “untrue, cruel, malicious and calculated to create mischief.”

A press statement issued on behalf of the family said “As people of faith, the Babangida family believes that at the appointed time, every soul shall revert to its creator because from Allah we came and to Allah we shall return.

“The IBB family are aware that rumour- mongering of the death of prominent persons in our midst is a pastime because our dear late president of the First Republic, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and our current President, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, were rumoured dead many times while they were very much alive.”

“We do not have enough words to thank you for your expressed concern”.
