With so much time on my hands today. . . I decided to browse through the religion section, only to realise that there is NOT a single new thread that raises intellectual posers and provokes deeply thought-out debates. all we have are bashing and opinionated threads . . . , with no room for intellectual and rich debates anymore.

is the religion section dead? where are the principal actors?
Re: Is This The Death Of The Religious Section? by PastorAIO: 9:02pm On Nov 18, 2009
Where is Huxley? I also then the departure of the atheists has been a blow to the section. Those atheists that remain are not really getting that involved. It is all christian vs. Muslim.

Makes one want to become a buddhist.
Re: Is This The Death Of The Religious Section? by noetic15(m): 9:07pm On Nov 18, 2009
lol . . . I think huxley is tired of having his ignorance exposed all the time grin grin

But on a serious note . . . this is really sad. even u (Pastor AIO), u are yet to bring up ur usually well thought out debates and opinions on any thread lately. This section has lost the spark. . .abuzola is now king grin

I'm also terribly bored. For almost 3 weeks now i load the page and can't find interesting topics to comment on. I might be tempted to move over to Romance and sexuality.

Tudor - You dare not speak: cos you hardly ever open any threads yourself, so you cannot sit back and lament if there are no interesting threads!

Nezan:

abuzola has destroyed the religious section.

And shamefully, it has to be said that the Moderators allowed him to do this.

Hah!Look who is talking!Noetic(of all people) is looking for threads that "raises intellectual posers and provokes deeply thought out debates".Aren't we forgetting something? This is a RELIGION forum and and only shallow my - religion - is - better - than - yours threads get opened in here.In this forum, where religious folks form about 99% of the crowd, what do you expect? It is all oneupmanship business here,my friend.Deep thinking?Religions like christianity and islam make people to be extremely shallow in their thinking.People who only try to promote and force their religious ideologies on others cannot be expected to indulge in deep thinking debates. To them, it is a sheer waste of time. They just want their respective religions to be accepted as the one and only truth, and that is the end of that. What depth of thinking do you think that requires or can provoke?Let me tell you, NONE WHATSOEVER.So what is all this talk about a dearth of deep thinking threads? Are you not a christian?Aren't you also involved in the religious propaganda actions of running other beliefs down just to upgrade yours? When was the last time that you opened such a thread, noetic? Will you quit being a hypocrite for once.

Hi all,

It always left me astonished; wondering why people lament on things they could themselves call an end to. Instead of just complaining, criticizing others for the fault, and the likes, why won't we see these classical and sensational postings from you guys, right?

Because religion is DEAD, it is the same outdated information that is recycled again and again. Christian are more and more confused and are just doing copy and paste of the same old bible. There is nothing new, and everything that have to be said about the bible have been said already again and again. Still your Jesus is not here yet and peadophile Pastors are still raping childrens at church.

all we have are bashing and opinionated threads . . .  , with no room for intellectual and rich debates anymore.

This is my own point of view.

There is still plenty room for intellectual and rich debates. In fact, the forum never got smaller, and the 'principal actors' were never banned. So I am quite confused by your assertion. Many enlightening threads are created from time to time, but it appears that the very controversial ones are the more popular, hence they get more posts and remain on the front page of the child board. It is a direct reflection of users' activities on the forum, it is not like it is deliberately engineered by someone behind the scenes. If users choose not to post "threads that raise intellectual posers and provoke deeply thought-out debates", they will not be, simple as that.

From my own understanding, there is a fairly thin line between being tolerant of criticism and preventing unwarranted abuse and defamation of one's religion. It is the reason why till tomorrow, a lot of threads will be argumentative and controversial, and they will be permitted on the forum. It is when these are not factual and merely sentimental, or when they degenerate into personal attacks that they cannot be tolerated.
The whole idea of "Islam for Muslims" unfortunately makes this space the only place for cross-religious debate.

Pastor AIO:

We await Abuzola2
He will be rebranded rebanned with immediate effect.
Re: Is This The Death Of The Religious Section? by Tudor6(f): 3:50pm On Nov 19, 2009
I gave up 'intellectual debates' on public forums eons ago. Frankly its no use. You argue and argue and at the end of the day nothing.

I learnt long ago you cannot convert anyone through arguing, infact it serves to further entrench them into their dogma. . . .

So FUN is my motto here. I don't care if two individuals are sliting their throats all over the damn board as long as am ENTERTAINED and have ALL THE FUN.

see this enemy of progress. folks like abuzola never die, they only multiply.

This section is seasonal, the jagun jaguns would be back. The muslim section should be scrapped by the way.

Perhaps you shouldn't try to convert.  That is why you get so disappointed when 'at the end of the day nothing'.

It is much better to debate with a dialectical spirit of exploring the issue.  Ultimately it might be your own mind that is changed rather than the other person being converted.  Or even both of you will end up changing your positions slightly (not necessarily a complete volte face) though not to the same position.

Just my suggestion.

haha. I don't post here much anymore cause I love debating too much and I can't stand people that can't disagree with u without insulting u. The whole point is to share our opinions and bounce ideas back and forth and we can all come out of here smarter than we were when we came, and not angrier, more irritated, or just plain miserable. This section does that to me sometimes and I can't keep doing stuff that messes up my mood. I be happy go lucky type mora foka and i no like to dey vex.

Why is noetic pretending to be an intellectual by starting a thread like this? Here is an idea for you thread starter, start one of those 'intellectual and deeply thought out' threads that you miss. Start one yourself instead of just complaining.
And moderator, unban Abuzola with immediate effect.

A_K_O is a useless Ingrate, banning people out of envy, he is always jealous when he sees a person shining, he suffers from chronic emotional insecurity, to him a nairaland moderator is a Nigerian senator. he has banned almost all interesting guys here, this nairaland is getting boring , maybe we should all leave it for the owner who makes his money with us and his useless moderator A_K_O.

Hahahaha grin grin grin Ordinarily I should delete this post because it contains personal insults, but I'll leave it because its so funny, and because you need to know this:

No moderator can ban, only the supermoderator and Seun can.

And that you make such spontaneous, spurious and false judgments on my person is comical.
