Why Must The Seats Be In The Upright Position?

Safety - First consider the fact that they tell you to do this when the plane takes off, and when the plane lands. These are the two most dangerous times during the flights, when things are likely to go wrong.

Locking Mechanism - There is also a locking mechanism in the seat that is only activated when the seat is in the upright position. That means in case of an impact, the seat will safest when in the upright position.

Extra room - Another reason is that when the seat is in the upright position, more space is created for the person behind you. This makes evacuating the plane much easier for everyone.

Center of balance - Another reason is due to the center of balance. When the plane is inclined, you back is supported by your upper back when the seat is reclined, which is bad for your spine.
