The Nigerian Army has barred officers and soldiers on duty from uploading pictures and videos of their operation on social media.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Mechanized Army, Major-General Adeniyi Oyebade, gave the warning on Tuesday, on behalf of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai. He spoke at the graduation ceremony of Men of Nigerian Battalion (NIBBAT) 46 held at the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre (NAPKC), Jaji in Kaduna state.

Oyebade said “it is prohibited to upload any picture with your uniforms while in operation. Specifically, I want to warn you on the use of social media.

“While you are on operation, you may want to take photo shot of some good moment but you should be very careful while doing that.

“Avoid any picture or video that has to do with your colleague or operation. You are barred not to upload such information.

“It is prohibited to upload any picture with your uniforms while in operation, because it will become a pragmatic problem for the Nigerian Army.”

Good call, i dont even see reason why camera phones are allowed to war fronts.

What happened to their Usual walkie talkie or what ever they call those hummer phones or even the wired connections?

We now see soldiers reporting instead of the media.

Some soldiers upload everything including their position and number of hardware on social media which is wrong and in a proper war with a sophisticated enemy will endanger them

All Nigerians support knowing is the truth. But just read on. Some persons will just want to talk. Hence they will embarrass themselves. At least it is clear enought that the aarmy didn't say don't carry phones, the directive is to not post just about everything the snap and those that will specifically compromise them. Is that not Gbam enof?

It's long overdue and not just on social media. Not everything about the military operations should be available to the press.

About time, too. You find them posting things that ordinarily should be classified info and this often makes me wonder what kind of things they've been taught at military school.

Nigerian army please think twice

Shidren of 8 are in every part of the country especially in liePob land, if you announce any success all they will say is that it's propaganda, some will say pinshure or adonbilivit

Even with pictures they don't believe you so, Nigerian Army not posting at all is wrong but censoring what they post is allowed

Good one. Wondering what's the correlation between battle field and cameras, is not like they are shooting movie or something like.

Voicing their opinion? Really? Tell me anywhere around the world where soldiers carry cameras or smartphones around in battle fields taking selfie. Even if they did, they won't post it on social media while in active service. I've said it once in one of those military threads in foreign sections, the bullsh't doesn't make any sense and I wonder why they let it linger on for so long.

Wont the soldiers give a better account than the media houses?

And some people support this....
Some people are just brain dead... trust me, if you have families in the army you would reason otherwise..

They should die and be forgotten even after complaining..

No media house noticed the flag difference till date, but the soldiers did and raised red flag. Is it not their life that would be sacrifised.

So u didn't think it is compromising for soldiers to upload pictures of ongoing battles.

Where is that done?

All those other pictures we see from other countries are veted pictures by the army taken by accredited press mean.

Taking unnecessary pictures at the battlefront is even distracting and put soldiers and their families at risk of terrorists.

With the advent of social media and majority of people putting all their lives on facebook, it is very easy for terrorists to trace the family of soldiers and do them harm.

The write up quoted the General aas saying they are free to take pictures of those exciting moments, but to upload them to the public including the enemies is what they seek to stop.

Yes, lets the world see what they are going through, be it good, bad or otherwise...

We go on social platforms and scream our hearts out for our bad roads, lack of light. Some go on instagram and twitter to tell their stories first hand.. if the news about soldiers on drip in the dessert had not circulated, would the army have done anything?... their lives are at war-fronts.. why cant they tell their story?

They are humans and blood run through their vains
