DR. Abubakar Jiddere of the Political Science Department of the Bayero University, Kano, has said that there is no political ideology in the country's politics since the Second Republic, saying most of today’s politicians are pursuing selfish agenda.

He then called on the political elite to legislate for societal transformation as well as provision of basic amenities rather than pursuing goals for their aggrandizement.

Disclosing this on Thursday, in Kano during a one-day sensitisation workshop on Civil/Political Education for the North, organised by Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Inspirational Leadership Forum, held at Centre for Democratic Studies, Mambayya, Dr. Jiderre urged politicians to take the interest of electorate into consideration.

He further observed that only few politicians are credible to be voted into power in Nigeria, stressing that despite this, some governors such as those of Lagos, Kano, Rivers, Bauchi, Jigawa and Anambra states have done their best.

Presenting another paper, Dr. Habu Muhammad said he observed that there was the need to reform the political system, lamenting that none of the 54 political parties in the country could fashion out an ideology.

Dr. Muhammad, whose paper was entitled: “Reforming the Political Environment: A Panacea for Hitch-free Election,’’ stated that lack of ideology gave birth to 46 gubernatorial aspirants for the Anambra State governorship election, pointing out that the highest bidder would surely emerge as candidate.

He, however, noted that political institutions in Nigeria were taking shape, emphasising that the future of Nigeria’s democracy depends on free and fair election, observing further that if Justice Uwais Electoral Reform Committee’s report is adopted, it could take Nigeria to the promised land.

There's none at all.

The Labour Party can hardly win an election when most Nigerians are in the labour force.

Action Congress is has a name that mentions no political ideology in particular.

The People's Democratic Party is tautology because democratic is of the people and any party that has to do with the people is democratic. So the repetition shows they don't even know the meaning of the PDP, let alone the ideology. The PDP of Nigeria is meant to be more like the Democratic Party of the USA but right now, it operates like the Republican Party.

A party like the National Conscience Party just got that name for naming sake.

The Don is absolutely right.

Even, there is nothing federalist about our federalism where all the power is concentrated in the centre

It wouldn't take a crystal ball to see that the only political idealogy in nigeria is looting the national cake as they call it.Our leaders are rogues that should be in jail just like bode george even though his jail term is whitewashed and cosmetic. They should be jailed for donkey years.
