These are the chosen words of Yahya Jammer, the president of Gambia who lost the December 1 election to his challenger Adama Barrow. “I will not” simply means “I must not” and it is different from “I shall not” By saying “I must not”, it implies that he is defending his fundamental human right for his personal property. He is now being compared to Naboth in the Holy Bible who said he must not let Ahab the king take his portion of land. It must be noted that it is not the first time such a thing is happening in Africa. Few years ago, it took place in Ivory Coast.

In view of the problem in Gambia some presidents from some African countries rushed to the country to convince Jammer to step down. After days of dialogue, his final words are, “I must not step down”. Could it be said that he was not convinced by them since the kettle cannot call the pot black. Some of those presidents who rushed to Gambia may not be better than Jammer. Let us have a close look at one of them, the Nigerian president.

He lost election to the then incumbent some years ago, and it is attributed to him that he said that he would make the government ungovernable for the one who won the election. Whether he accomplished it or not Nigerians will tell better. Having won election last year after an alleged mass rigging, he is now the law giver and the sole interpreter of the law. He is known not to have obeyed the court of law on several occasions. Elections conducted under him were massively rigged with horrible assassinations just to make sure that the ruling party won those elections. What moral courage has he to rush to Gambia to convince Jammer? What would he tell Jammer? Can the kettle call the pot black?

Africa is in a mess because African rulers take their respective countries as their personal properties. There is no working constitution, there is no evidence of the rule of law. Things are still this way in Africa because African countries are still amalgams. They are not ye nations. African presidents rather than rushing to Gambia should come together if they are sincere to discuss how to change these amalgams to nations. They should begin respective national unification process through national conference and restructuring process. If these presidents would not like to do this, we Africans are obliged to begin the campaign. This blog in a shortest time will indicate the way to follow. God bless Africa!!!

Thanks for your nice contribution. www.Veritasafrique.com is a blog managed by some patriotic Africans from different African countries and geared towards the emancipation of Africa wallowing in an artificial darkness created by the colonial masters many years ago.
Our aim is not to blame any person because the problems that Africans are passing through today were not initiated by Africans themselves. Africans met themselves in this horrible situation. The statement was attributed to the president then when he lost election. It could be a popular statement by the masses wrongly attributed to him or it could be a question of out of every smoke there is fire. A clear conscience fears no accusations.
Is it also a moonlight tale that the two gubernatorial elections with the run-off in Rivers conducted by this political dispensation were almost a war front characterised with a blood bath marred with incredible rigging? Is this also a moonlight tale? Is it a moonlight tale that constituted law courts in the land were being snubbed? Are you not aware of these?
We are not concentrating on a particular country. This is a general problem in Africa. Are you aware of what happened in Ivory Coast few years ago after the presidential election? Do you remember the circumstances in Kenya during the presidential election about two years ago? We believe you are in touch with the situations now in Congo! Do we need to tell you about the happenings in Burkina Faso? We believe that you have your facts on the events in Central African Republic! Do we have to continue? You are well informed about the holy events in Southern Sudan. That of Gambia is only few weeks ago. Are all these moonlight tales?
Africa is in turmoil because of the structures on the ground. These presidents are doing all these because of the corrupt structure. Any African could have done what these presidents are doing. It is not time to lay blames. It is not time to accuse one another. It is not time to condemn anyone. It is not time to defend one tribe or the other.
It is time to change the socio-political face of Africa. Politics is not a do or die affair. It is a call to render service and build up one’s country. The country is not the property of politicians or of those who benefit from the confusion in the continent of Africa. Each country in Africa belongs to the citizens.
