Clunking Sound From Front Legs Of My Car by Lexmeizta: 11:58am On Jan 21, 2017
Good day House,
I use an 08 Nissan Sentra, low mileage and well maintained, only issue I have with the car currently is that there's this constant clunking sound coming from the legs when I drive and tilt the steering wheel, steering doesn't also feel as tightly connected as it should be (maybe it's just me) but something just isn't right about the front legs.
Any suggestions what I can do? Anyone willing to direct me to a specialist who'll take a very good look at it?
Thanks in advance

Naah, not caliper, not shaft, more complicated than that. Recently replaced shocks and linkage, my initial thought was that those weren't fixed right but they've been checked by different people and checks out okay

hmm oga hope its not from your gearbox! they should check that too. sometimes sounds from gear box sounds like its coming from the front wheels.

Steering joint, maybe. Gearbox, naah...I'm actually looking for a mechanic around the Festac axis or environs who can check it out and give a clear diagnosis

look at the sway bay bushing.
the sway bar, usually called stabilizar bar is a semi thick iron rod 19mm to 35mm diameter in most cars that runs from 1 side to the other side. the are are held onto the car with rubber bushings, its difficult to see with the human eye if the bushings are worn, simply change them with the apprioprate size/type

Very correct .Please check sway bar bushing that supports a long rod that links both front ends . there is a rubber bushing on both ends.
God bless Nigeria

Okay, would do, but do you have any mechanic in the Festac axis that can assist? Thanks

Worn out brake pads dont produce a clunk noise, clunk noise is usually produced by two metal hitting each other under sort of swing force

Worn our brake pads against brake disc dont produce such noise but granding noise

That noise might be from worn out rubber bushes eg track rod end, drop link, sway bar arm bushes etc

naaah, i dont have, am not in lagos, its a simple operation, changed mine myself on my car a while back,,, after several mechanics were misdiagnoising the noise, some said bad shocks, bad lower control arm etc, i did a lil research, n got it fixed myself...just 2 nuts holding it down at both ends.

your best bet is to locate an intl car form for ur car type/make...register an account n learn.

also, so many things could b causing that clunking noise, though those bushings are the usual culprit. so do it systematically

Thanks, so I got a mechanic to take a look over the weekend and he says its my steering rack. Although it doesn't sound like, he suggests I should use the car like that as its no serious threat and a replacement rack from the market might not be as good as the one i'm letting go. Gives me serious concerns.
Know any Int'l forums for Nissan cars?

just google, there are nissan forums, the bushings cost me 2k for 2of them and took me 30mins to change, if you are a diy person, its something to try first...2k no b big money na.

am not sorry to say this..but the average mechanic doesnt know much, are they not the ones that tell people with check engine sign on thier dash to carry go...'' that na normal thing for US spec cars''.
to really maintain ur car in naija, u hv to be a diy person, or have loads of money to dash the big service enters...n hope they fix your car properly

UPDATE on this issue, turns out it wasn't that big a deal, had my lower arm bushing changed, also replaced my tie-rod ends and that solved it. Steering wheel feels much more intimate with the car and less wobbles.
thanks for the suggestions guys.
