System Engineer is too generic. Some IT engineers are called system engineers and some electrical engineers are called system engineers.It depends on what you will be doing at the company. You'll need to explain the job role if you really need help preparing for interview as they will test your technical skills.

General rule. Find out information about the company and what they expect from you technically.which skills they want.
Find out if there is someone already in the same role as you applied for. Check their linkedin profile to see the skills. That will give you a clearer view of what's expected.
Remember, you have to tailor your interview to what they want. You don't have to boast about skills they don't need. Just the ones the company needs and sell it well

1. Different between SATA/IDE?

2. How do you create system restore point and automatic backup on daily basis?

3. What do you understand by BIOS and how do you upgraded an outdated system bios?.

4. What do you understand by ATA, Legacy, etc

5. How do you create administrative order in a system with multiple users account?

6. How do create daily system policy?

7 what are the best ways to prevent virus?

8. How van you install and manage IDS manually?

9 What is the differentiate these files systems NTFS, FAT, and FAT32

10. Which folder is refers as executable folder of an operating system?

11. How can retrieve files from a system after installing new windows?

My dear, the questions are versatile, if your really system Engr I don't think you have anything to worry about because you must be very conversant with the systems and terms.

Bro the work differs, except the position is system Engineer with Networking Experience..In my previous company we have system Engineers at same time Net Engineers, except is a small organization that want use one person for the two, over 80% system Engineers knows nothing about Networking.

Am assuming you do not have a certification in that area yet?.
As a Systems Engineer in most org. you are expected to understand the following;
- Basic network architecture (LAN/WAN)
- Know the difference between a public/private IP addresses and Understand IP subnets.
- Understand different server architecture and server roles (i.e DNS servers/web servers/application servers)
_ Understand Basic end user support roles.
- Most importantly, try to know what network structures they have in place i.e brand/type of server and OS. if they use linux, make sure you know bit of it. u should be comfortable with Microsoft server OS, VM ware, Hypervisor.
- Know about video editing applications (especially the one they use)/know about graphic cards

..My brother its a load of this and that, but the above knowledge should give you confidence to look into their eyes and talk your own.

I am metallurgist that have worked in the metallurgical sector till this recession started.
Now, I am trying to launch myself back to the employment sector. I do not have the needed background for this job but am being invited for the interview.

Show the interviewer that the skills you gained in your previous employment will be assets in this new role. Obviously from your cv they can tell that this is a new field for you but they certainly like your experience. So look closely at the job description and try to link what you did in your previous employment to the duties listed. Show them that you are versatile and a quick learner.
