Trinity - With all due respect to the christians in the house means nothing to the muslims, in fact it defies logic and 1+1+1 can never equal 1.

We believe in one God , the God of Abaraham,Noah,Moses, Jesus and Muhammad Peace on them all. The very first creed in islam is to say "I bear withness that there is no other deity axcept God and Muhammad is his messenger" and to believe in Jesus and other prophets as the messenger of God as well. We do not associate any partners to God and beleieve in the unity of God.

The concept of the end time in islam is quite expansive but let just breifly say we balieve in the end of the owrld at an appointed time of God. The earth will be destroyed and evry soul will be raised again to live and gathered together on the day of ressurection for judgement. The successfull ones will be in paradise (Jannah) and the failiures will be in Hell. Paradise is in the heavens , it exists already and not on earth likewise hell fire.

You cant buy slaves anymore. The slave-trade era has long passed (at least in our part of the world). Sure inter-marriage is workable, but it isnt permissible if it vice versa. Because, a man has more power than the woman, it is believed that he can convert the woman. And if he cant, he would be able to raise their kids on the path of Islam.
So as u cant get slaves now, what happens if a beliver kills a fellow beliver mistakenly?how then wud he appease?
Please do be patient with me.  wink

I believe, but not sure that if a believe kills a fellow, and the people know about it he should be killed as well the same way he killed his fellow. But if no one knows about it, or he doesnt live in an Islamic state where Sharia is practised he cant ask Allah for forgiveness and do things like- fasting, admitting it to the family of the fellow (and if they forgive him) provide anything they need for funeral costs as well as their own catering, and of course be sober. There are more things to do, but thats like the basics.

Lagosboy,quick one,What do u mean by slaves?
who is a slave?can a slave be bought?how and where?
About the inter-marriage,Do u think its workable for a muslim male to marry and live with a Christian lady in same roof, both praticing their religions?

A slave  is somone owned by another person. Islams message was to systemically abolish slavery and that was why one of good deeds in islam is to free a slave. Slavery is almost extinct in the world of islam today apart from i think Mauritana  which is due to their backwardness.

Intermarriage is a hot topic, practically i must confess it is difficult especially if they are both practising. one calling on one God and the other saying no it is three in one. The children will be the most difficult ones to manage in this regard. I would advise a muslim man to marry a muslim lady and save himself lots of trouble. Many scholars in islam have reccommended this as well and added lots of conditions to marry a christian lady like chastity, location within an islamic state and so on.

And God knows best

No worries patience is part of our faith and one of Allahs names is As Sabur - The patient.

If you read the verse i quoted Allah in his infinite wisdom knows not every believer will have slaves and not every will have the money so he gave an alternative - Fasting for two consecuitive months to atone for this mansalughter. Indeed he his a merciful God.

Rapture,Hell,Heaven,New earth,casting of demons/devil ie deliverance
what are the significances of going to Mecca?Must a Muslim go to Mecca?

Casting of demon exists in islam and it is called Ruk'iya there is a thread here on NL which is quite extensive on the subject i will dig it out inshallah.

Going to mecca - Hajj is of great significance to muslims and it is partof the 5 pillars of islam which are :

Tawheed - Belief in ONE God
Salah - Worship prayer
Fasting in Ramdhan
Zakah - Compuslory pyament of 2.5% of your wealth to the poor
Hajj

The last two are with tho conditions of having the means and not poor.

Hajj is a symbolic rperesentation of worship of What Abaraham,Hajar and his son Ishmael PBUH went through when they were commanded by God to go to Makkah. The rituals of hajj are largely symbolic following of the actions of these noble people and the hearkneing of the Dua (prayer) of Abraham in the quran .

When Ibrahim PBUH completed the structure of the Kabah, Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) commanded him to call the people to Hajj. Ibrahim PBUH pleaded, "O Allah! How shall my voice reach all of those people?" Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) told him that his duty was only to give the call and it was up to Allah to make it reach the people.

Ibrahim PBUH then climbed Mount Arafat and called out in his loudest voice, "O People! Verily Allah has prescribed upon you Hajj, so perform Hajj."

Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) revealed in the Qur'an: "And proclaim the Hajj among mankind. They will come to thee on foot and (mounted) on every camel, lean on account of journeys through deep and distant mountain highways" (Surat Al-Hajj, Ayat 28).

To this very day millions upon millions of Muslims continue to answer the call of Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis salaam).

It is the only gathering in the world with 3 million people in one location every year , all in the same clothing of modest white. No rich no poor no king no president as they are all the same before the Most High

Re: Curious About Islam, facts About Islam. by olabowale(m): 8:09pm On Dec 10, 2009
If a believer kills a believer, and no knows about it, it means that Allah covers that sin, so there is no reason for him/her to broadcast what Allah had covered. If he/she broadcasts it, then whatever the judgement; taking his life for it, or asking for blood money, or overlooking, releasing him from any possible punishment or payment, that will be up to the community after trial, and family willingness to forgive or avenge!

A person whose sin is covered should not broadcast it. Instead, seek forgiveness with Allah, supplicating, fasting doing good, especially and inclusive with the family of the murdered victim.
Re: Curious About Islam, facts About Islam. by Lagosboy: 1:10pm On Dec 11, 2009
My humble take on this is , when a believer kills a believer and no one knows about it , he has a moral and religious duty to inform the family of the deceased because it is an obligation for him to pay the blood money. The covering of sins by Allah should not be broadcasted by the sinner but this doesnt apply in the case of sin that has to do with the right of another person. When a muslim sins he can beg for forgiveness if the sin has to do with himself however if his sin is to another person like embezling someones money and so on, after asking for forgivenes from Allah he has to fulfil the rights of the victim. That is the justice of Islam and the admittance to the family is not broadcasting either rather it is admitting of guilt relating to manslaughter.

Egbon Olabs I hope you understand my point.

@Ifyaalways
Yes we have sects in islam and we have demoniations which are just like groups. The 2 MAJOR sects we have ins islam are the Shia and Sunni. The origin of the difference was largely a political  or should a i say socio political diference with a little bit of tribal undetone which unofrtunately degenrated into some religious differences. However the 2 sects beleive in the same five pillars of islam and the seven artilces of faith which makes one a muslim. We use the same quran with no different version or anything like that.

The prophet PBUH said anyone who believes and practices the five pillars of islam without anything more or less is guaranteed paradise. I personaly take an opinion or satnce which is we should unite on what we agree upon and leave our differences to sort itself out. 90% of the muslim world are Sunnis and shia was an ofshoot from the orthodox islam.

The other sects in islam are minor sects and some are not even muslims but just use the name of islam. This is the simplest way i could put it across.

What will your next query be if your satisfied with this.

Yes married muslims were rings. It is encouraged especialy for the women to wear as well but for the men it is not compulsory but men do wear and as far as i know there is no issue with it. The location of the ring is a different matter some wear the rings on the fourth finger of the right hand while some wear it on the same finger on the left.

Muslims dont have ordinance in such a manner but we have something similar which is for reverts(converts) to islam. When a person accepts to be a muslim he or she recites the testimony of faith " I bear withness that there is no deity except Allah and Muhammed is his servant and messenger" . That is the testimony that makes one a muslim, then it is encouraged to have a bath which is just washing your body with water hereby purifying yourself into the new faith of islam.

Do muslims ever go out to preach, teach, hold crusades or seminars or any form of seeking converts?

Oh yeah!!! We call it dawah (propagation of the faith). It is a mandotory for all muslims to spread the word of Allah. Islam was spread through arabia in the time of the Prophet PBUH especially after the "treaty of hudaibiyah". The companions were able to start to spread the beautiful message of Islam which was for everyone to submit to the One true God without associating partners with him and accepting and believing in all the prophets PBUT without making distinctions.

It is the same propgation the spread islam to africa , to the depth of China, to the inner caucuses of central asia and Russia, to the south east of asia and as far as comoros island.

In contemporary times the dawah is still on but muslims dont practise aggressive preaching like going out early in the morning , on the bus like it is done in some parts of Nigeria. Our call to prayer is also one of the way to send the messgae of islam out.

What i am doing now is also a form of Dawah wink

It went well thanks  wink  You and yours could pay a visit to a mousque and see how the jumah is performed one day.

Holy spirit mmm . . . . This actually depends on the context it is used and i will explain what i mean. Holy spirit is mainly refered to as the Angel Gabriel which we call Angel Jubril whom was the messenger Allah sent to all his messengers and prophets including Jesus PBUH.

Allah talked about the holy spirit in about a few verses in the quran and about three relating to jesus PBUH and i will quote them below. The arabic word for this is Ruh al qudus ( Spirit of Holiness) which means Jubril PBUH.

The first verse is
Q19 vs 17
{We sent to her [Mary] Our ruuh [angel Gabriel], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects. … [The angel] said: “I am only a messenger from your Lord, [to announce] to you the gift of a righteous son.

Note the RUUH which means Gabriel PBUH

Q2 v 253
And to Jesus the son of Mary, We gave clear proofs and evidences, and supported him with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Gabriel]
Then Q5 vs110
[Remember] when Allah will say [on the Day of Resurrection], “O Jesus son of Mary! Remember My favor to you and to your mother when I supported you with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Gabriel] so that you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity, and when I taught you writing, al-hikmah (the power of understanding), the Tawrah (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel).”

Then  Q2 v 87
And indeed, We gave Moses the Book and followed him with a succession of messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear signs and supported him with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Gabriel]

Above are about 4 verses relating to the holy spirit and Jesus.

There are other verses realting to the Ruh which are :
Q26 vs 193
"And truly, this (the Qur'ân) is a revelation from the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists),
Which the trustworthy Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] has brought down"

Q70 v 4
The angels and the Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years,

Finally i want to say we cannot fully understand the concept and subject of spirit as it is a difficult topic and even Allah says in the quran "yasal lunaka an Al Ruh , quli ruhu min amri rabbi wa maa uwtitum minal ilmi ila qalil"
"They ask you concrning the spirit (Soul) say the spirit (soul) is one of the things of which knowledge is only with my lord. And of knowledge you have been given a little"

I hope I have been able to give you a brief intro into the subject of holy spirit in islam.

And God knows best

Re: Curious About Islam, facts About Islam. by Lagosboy: 5:44pm On Dec 18, 2009
Hey i am here sorry just been busy  wink

Oya i wil start to answer.

Muslims dont accept the christmas 25th was Jesus PBUH birthday and in fact muslims dont celebarate the birthdays of ealier prophets and to make it more clear the celebration of Prophets Muhammed PBUH birthday is a hot topic in islam and many muslims dont even celebrate it.

Historians tell us it was nearly three centuries after the death of Christ before a day was set aside for a special observance for His birth. "Christmas was for the first time celebrated in Rome in 354, in Constantinople in 379, and in Antioch in 388." (Commentary on the Gospel of Luke, Norval Geldenhuys, p. 102). A well known preacher during this time mentioned the late origin of Christmas. "Chrysostom, in a Christmas sermon, A.D. 386, says, 'It is not ten years since this day was clearly known to us, '" (Unger Bible Dictionary, p. 196). "Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the church, and before the fifth century there was no general consensus of opinion as to when it should come in the calendar, whether January 6th, March 25th, or December 25th." (Encyclopedia Britannica, Vol. 5, p. 641).
Re: Curious About Islam, facts About Islam. by Lagosboy: 6:45pm On Dec 18, 2009
Holy spirit in islam like i said is Angel Jibreel. He was sent to the prophets and we do not accept any "minister of God" has a link to him. Inspiration from God is different from revelelation and God does not need the leader of the angels to inspire men. The concept of holy spirit is different to the holy spirit in todays christianity which in turn is different to the holy spirit Jesus PBUH talked about. I have been avoiding all along to go into a comparative analysis of some concepts of the two faiths which i dont mind doing but I will suggest will leave it till later. Let me give you the islamic perspective of things and then we go into a comparative study.

An imam is a person who leads the prayer in the mosque, he has other social responsibilities in the community as well. He his what you will call your pastor in a church.

Yes here in the west, most mosques pay the imams and they have other benefis. In Nigeria some mosques do and some dont , obviously the economic situation in the country plays a factor in this. In the arab worlds imams are paid as well, the difference between imams and other religous leaders is often times they dont own the mosque but are appointed by the community to lead their affairs.

A woman could lead other women in prayer but cannot lead men in prayer so she cannot be the imam in a mosque.

A woman could be a teacher and she has no limits regarding this she could reach the pinnaccle of islamic education and can have male students as well as female. There are many women scholars in the history of islam and Aisha RA the wife of th prophet PBUH was a fantastic scholar of islam and among her male students were the teachers of the foremost jurists in islam like Abu hanifa, Imam Jafar, Imam Malik.

The veil is not compulsory in islam on a married woman nor a single woman. The quran did not make the veil compulsory on any woman but only the wives of the prophet PBUH to differentiate them from other women as they are regarded as mothers of the believers.

Its a shame about that and quite unfortunate because it is laxity amongst the muslims. I dont know where u live but in many wester countries the dawah is quite active and there are thousnds of white and black reverts in the west, amongst the former ministers and pastors. In mosques in london there is hardly any week without people accepting islam in droves. I am aware of other parts of the UK with this phenomenom. In the US it is the same thing thousands reverting every year, the dawah is active in the west but unfortunately in African countries it is inactive.

Other people in the house could please shed more light on this.

Almajiri phenomenom is a nothern Nigeria thing and a terrible unfortunate cultural phenomonom. It has no basis in islam as such and it is simply poverty and lack of political will on the part of the govt to tackle the issue. Learning of quran and religious learning is a wonderful thing children should be encouraged to engage in at a young age but their upkeep and feeding should be taken care of.

Almajjiri menace is a Political and social problem and not an islamic problem.

Begging is frowned at in islam and in some arab countries beggars are arrested, Islam commands charity and Zakah is is a pillar of islam but islam doesnt encourage profeffessional begging especially when you are abled and not disabled.

And God knows best
