Following spate of kidnapping in Lagos State, the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has signed bill that prohibited Act of Kidnapping into law, saying the law would help end kidnappers’ activities in the state.

Ambode added that the law imposes a penalty of life imprisonment on anyone kidnapping for ransom and that if a victim dies during course of kidnap, the suspect would be liable on conviction to death.

The governor, who also signed bills on Sports Trust Fund and Sports Commission, lamented that kidnapping had become a major threat to safety of citizens and therefore required decisive action by the government.

He said “Security is of utmost importance to our administration and we are confident that this law will serve as a deterrent to anybody who may desire to engage in this wicked act within the boundaries of Lagos state.

“Our justice system will be required to execute this Law to the letter and make sure that any criminal caught faces the full wrath of the law.
