Rangers, Shooting Stars tango to rekindle rivalry in Ibadan

This used to be one of Naija footie's biggest games,

A football rivalry that has spanned nearly four decades will be rekindled tomorrow in Ibadan, Oyo State, when 3SC of Ibadan, who are yet to find their in the Premier league teams after gaining promotion from the lower cadre, square up against Rangers of Enugu in a Globacom Premier League match.


Shooting Stars are currently 16th on the table, a situation Coach Phillip Boamah attributes to lack of depth in the Ibadan team. Their last match in Ibadan against Ocean Boys of Brass ended goalless to further compound the precarious situation of the Ibadan side.

To scramble out of their unenviable position, Boamah and his boys know they must get a result at the Liberty Stadium tomorrow.

For the visiting Rangers, they will want to capitalise on Ocean Boys good fortune in Ibadan last week to get at least a draw of their own. Rangers too do not have an away pedigree this season, three losses and a draw is not exactly the stuff to rave about, plus they have conceded goals in all their away matches. Given this fact, Shooting Stars might just have an edge particularly as Rangers’ last visit to Ibadan four seasons ago in 2005 ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Enugu side.

i know not many people are interested in the Nigerian league but sooting,lol(shooting stars of Ibadan) vs rangers used to the the game back in the 80s, u need to go to Ibadan and let those old men talk about it.i was in Houston Texas last December and i saw grown men (in their 40s and 50s) arguing about games on when the odegbamis played for shooting, just like we of nowadays argue about Ronaldo, messi and all,

I was actually at Liberty stadium 2 see d match, but sth strange happened - Refereeing.

A player of Ranger's was sent off in d dying stages of d match, he argued wit d ref, and it ws d same player dat took d resultin freekick!!!! The ref was fully aware, & he did nuthin!!!
