Now he wants to balloon the quantity of northerners in the army by flooding the rank and file with IDPs!

This is exactly how we got to this stage where every army checkpoint you run into brings you face to face with uniformed men looking like aliens! Will they pass the normal procedure for enrollment into the army? States have their quotas, will this be obeyed? Or do this "quota system" thing only come handy when the north feels its about to be shortchanged?? Who is going to conduct the exams? Brutai is from Borno and these are his kiths and kins, is there no clash of interest here? Why are the Niger Delta militants and Bakassi/OPC boys not being recruited immensely into the army since recruitment of folks from jumpy areas seem to be the new fad?? Is the army barracks now a heaven for real and fake refugees? This is serious.

One section of the country controls the army, the air-force, the police, Civil defense, the customs! Is that not scary enough? Why are they using this boko haram menace as an excuse to loot everything in sight through spurious loans and then destroy the countrys institutions by bloating the workforce of security organisation with their own?

We have started this merit less processes that destroyed Nigeria in the past , there is a fair section process used to get people into the army and Buratai should stick to it ..if the Govt wants to help IDPS they should send them into Agriculture or teach them civil skills...Many of those IDPS are already mentally traumatic and may not be the best people to hand over assault rifles to in the name of quick employement

The Nigerian army was so messed up before 1999 that a former chief of army staff, Salisu Ibrahim rightly described the organisation as an "army where anything goes".. The reorganization that has led to a certain level of professionalism in the army started under Obasanjo. Infact if there was anything Obasanjo was able to do very well, it was to really professionalize the army by creating a fighting force that wouldn't be dangling the threat of 'coup' like the sword of the Damocles over a sitting executive! That's why Nigerias imperfect march to democratization has lasted this long , otherwise if those perennial 'coupists' he sacked early in his administration were still there by the time he left, there is a chance that events like the 'third term',Yaradua death imbroglio etc would have given some restless elements within the army, an opportunity to strike. Now buhari is back! The man with the gross allegation of not enrolling into the army with "qualified documents"! He seems not to understand the importance of having the necessary "serious qualifications" among recruits in helping professionalize the army.. Weeks back he was praising todays Nigeria army for not being interested in coups as was the case in his time, yet it is actions like this that made Nigerias army of yesteryears a "factory" producing 'coups" at every turn then..

Where is federal character and what happens to standards on the basis of qualifications? Merit ring a bell anymore?
