Hello guys, I'll be embarking on a road trip soonest to those locations as stated on the subject. I'm not sure of the best route from bauchi to wukari. This is where the problem is. A friend said getting to wukari would only be through Jalingo which is an 8hrs drive. I'm seriously in need of suggestions. |

GAZZUZZ:thank you boss. Getting to bauchi isn't the issue. Rather the route from bauchi to wukari. The route Google map gives is what I don't trust

Specialist900: Tafawa balewa is very large and can be approached from plateau state also, I guess it will be shorter for you. Do not drive to bauchi, from the outskirts of jos there is a straight road that leads to Tbalewa, let me search for the name of the junction. |

looking at the map to wukari. There are 2 possible ways to go, thru plateau or thru benue via nassarawa.

I asked around today from some transporters who ply that route, they said the best route to wukari is thru plateau just like Gazzuzz said but that the road is bad. They also said that Ibi, a ferry would be used to cross us and the car over river Benue to the other side |

Specialist900: The bad spot is from Shendam to Ibi before you cross the river using a ferry. That's the shortest route from Bauchi to Wukari. Most people that fear water avoid this route. You could decide to blow to Yola and connect Wukari if you are not scared of Boko Haram or blow to Makurdi and connect Wukari (you will spend more time and fuel on the road via these routes). |

Last minute change to the plan meant I had to stop over at Jos and at Bauchi before going to tafawa balewa. The final route then was Day 1: Abuja - keffi - kafanchan - kwoi - kagoro - vom - Jos - bauchi - tafawa balewa Day 2: tafawa balewa - bogoro- kanke - langtang - yelwa - shendam - Ibi - wukari Day 3: wukari - katsina Ala - Zaki biam - gboko - wannune - makurdi - lafia - akwanga - keffi - Abuja |

left Abuja at 8:45, stopped over at Masaka to fill up my tank than continued to Keffi. i achieved more miles in less time as the road was good. between keffi and kwoi, that road was something else, i lost my after market exhaust muffler there . i only noticed it when i was pulled over by the police for paper checks. between kwoi and kafanchan, fair road, made up for lost time . arrived Kafanchan by 11am. The friend i was with had called a friend whose house we stopped over to have breakfast and took takeaway  left kafanchan at 12noon, good road through Kagoro, manchok and then to vom. from Vom straight to Jos. we stopped over at Polo in Jos for our business there. left Polo-Jos at 4pm or so. Stopped over to fuel up since I wasn't sure of what was ahead. Got fuel for 155 per litre just outside Jos. Bought fuel worth 3k and headed to Bauchi, the road between Toro and Bauchi was good mehn. The kinds of speed those Vectra Opel and Sharan drivers use on that road ehn  . i remember doing 160kmph on the road still a Volks Sharan over took me .arrived bauchi at 5:45pm, saw an NNPC station just outside the town I then decided to fill up my tank. It cost 4k to get it filled at 145 per litre. Headed into bauchi town then stopped over to see friends, one just outside ATBU, then another inside the town. left Bauchi at some minutes to 8pm for Tafawa Balewa. very good new road. over 100km of the new road. i remember i asked my friend i saw at bauchi, if there was pothole on the bauchi - tafawa balewa road and she said none, that if i saw any, i should come back to bauchi and she will apologise . arrived my destination at about 9pm. since it was night i could only do btw 100 and 120kmph on that good stretch of road.pics 1: passing thru University of Jos pics 2: stop over just opposite ATBU Bauchi Pics 3: tafawa Balewa next morning(saturday)

Day 2 Left Tafawa balewa at some minutes to 10, headed straight through Bogoro, boi till i entered into plateau State(good road). stopped at Kanke for some snacks. dog meat was their suya there. you need to see dog meat on full display. i respected myself and bought snacks and water. I then turned left at the junction and headed towards langtang. the road was fair not much potholes. as we progressed, the road got lonelier till i stopped at Yelwa. was a busy town too with lots of commodity business. continued the journey with bad road through yamini. immediately after Yamini, on a very bad and dusty road i noticed my car temperature at half mark(way above optimum temperature), i pulled over and notice that the main fan bearing was bad. the fan wasn't running at optimal speed, was spinning with lots of noise. i had to sacrifice my AC to further the journey. i spent about 5mins or less waiting the engine to cool down back. the road got more bad and dry as we progressed. road cut, diversion into bush paths, i even crossed a wooden bridge and paid toll fee of 200naira to toll collectors who claimed they built and maintain the wooden bridge. we fired on till we got to the end of the tarred road . the guys at the wooden toll bridge had told us that the water level at the river was low and as such we will have to turn right and drive on the bank of the river till we got to the ferry loading point. pics 1: at Kanke, where the dog meat was sold pics 2: when i noticed the rise in temperature pics 3: end of the road pics 4: driving at the bank towards the ferry load point

drove the car onto the wooded ferry, each ferry takes 2 cars or buses. it was a thrilling 35minutes water drive. reversed out of the ferry as we got to the other side. was charged 2k for the ride, which was paid as i was embarking. the drive from Ibi to wukari was rough as the road into wukari town was still bad. road improved as we edged closer into town. arrived Wukari at about 5pm or there about. drove another 40km along the wukari - Jalingo highway to the exact village which was the target. ended the days trip there. pics 1: loading the car onto the ferry pics 2: the 35minutes ride on the ferry pics 3: along wukari - jalingo highway. ps: the old workhorse peugeot 504 wagon was majorly used along the bad Amper - Ibi road 2 Likes

Day 3: Journey back left Wukari town at 10am, please remember it was the full tank of fuel from Bauchi i was still using. reserve light lit up in wukari, drove into an NNPC fuel station, they sold fuel at 158 per litre, bought 3k fuel and drove off through federal university wukari, along the wukari - zaki biam highway, continued to katsina Ala. this highway was so good. was doing an average of 140kmph. i stopped over at a fuel station at katsina Ala and bought fuel for 3k at 155 per litre with the hope of filling up at Makurdi. hit the road, not long after i was on the bridge linking to gboko. right ontop, just after overtaking a trailer, I ran into a pothole right onto of the bridge linking towards gboko, i never expected there will be potholes that deep ontop of a bridge. no issues, continued journey through the bad roads to Gboko at an average speed of 70kmph. bought oranges at Gboko and continued. made a 30 minutes stop at wannune for small business then continued to makurdi. pics 1: ontop the katsina Ala bridge pics 2: driving inside Benue state University to use ATM 1 Like

got fuel for 7k at Mukurdi at 145 per litre, almost full tank. drove off at 3:45pm heading for Abuja, arrived Lafia at 5pm, no stops as i wanted to be close to abuja before night fell. made a quick stop at akwanga for water break and zoomed off towards Keffi. few kms to keffi darkness fell, this was about past 7pm. no stops, continued to abuja from keffi (good road). arrived home at 7:45pm. Journey done. all thanks to God odometer reading before leaving : 144146 (229.3) odometer reading on arrival : 145487 (570.0) Total km covered: 1341.27km fuel bought: 30k pics 1: brief stop at akwanga pics 2: odo reading upon arrival 1 Like
