Chime has transformed Enugu into a beautiful city, says Kano Governor

The Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shakerau has praised Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime of Enugu State for his good works, saying he has transformed Enugu into a beautiful city.

The Governor, who was speaking during a cultural night organized in his honour by his Enugu State urged the people of the State and government functionaries to continue to give him their support and cooperation.

Mallam Shakerau called on Nigerians to see political parties as platform for electing political leaders and not an avenue to divide the people, stressing that what matters most is not political party the chief executive of a state belongs to but what he is able to achieve to better the lots of the people.

He said that for democracy to endure, Nigerians must partisan differences aside and work together for the best interest of the people, adding that the people are the same, their needs similar and the visions of government in all tiers geared towards one objective.

Governor Shakerau, who was elected under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), explained that being in opposition does not mean that one should be always critical of the ruling party even where it is doing well.

The Kano State chief executive described Igboland as his second home, having served in the area during his national service some 31 years ago, and thanked the Igbo in Kano for their contributions to the socio-economic development of the State.

He pointed out that once we respect the culture of each ethnic group, know their likes and dislikes and carry all along, things will be better in the country.

The Governor, who disclosed that he appointed people from the major ethnic groups in the country including an Igbo in his government noted that apart from the Hausa, the Igbo are the largest ethnic group resident in Kano.

He also remarked that his host Governor shared his attitude of promoting national integration, expressing happiness that Governor Chime also appointed an Hausa, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed as a senior special assistant in his office.

Earlier in his speech, Governor Chime described his guest, Mallam Shakerau as a detribalized Nigeria who has contributed so much to the development of Kano State and Nigeria in general.

Governor Chime specifically thanked him for his interest and contributions to the University of Nigeria Nsukka in its quest to achieve excellence in its services and programmes.

The State Chief Executive described the visit of his Kano State counterpart as the beginning of new things to come since both States have a lot in common and a lot to learn from each other.

He thanked the Governor for his selfless service to his people, adding that his visit to the university community in Nsukka on the instance of the alumni association of the institution was a welcome development.

The cultural night featured display of traditional dances from Adaeze and Udu Bunch cultural troupes of Enugu State, and others.
