Hate religion all you want, the fact is that it has it's Merits and Flaws (Story for another day).
But, we can't deny the fact that those weekly Church services, they are good for our mental health. Church services are psychotherapy sessions with our Psychiatrists.
The uplifting messages, the "It shall be well with you" and "This week is your week of upliftment" are nothing more than tactics to pull people back from the brink of depression and improve their moods, give them that belief that they can achieve something in the coming week, give them that "can do" mindset and attend to their mental health needs, especially in this period of economic downturn.

Just imagine that there are no churches around offering people hope and attending to their mental health needs by providing a support system, we'll definitely see a lot of folks with mental health issues.

It's been medically proven that religion is of immense help to any patient battling depression.

So, even if you're an atheist and you have no good support system, don't say NO to a Sunday service. That's a psychotherapy session for your mental health "free of charge".

Much as this might sound hurray, in the understanding of the religious and the babies in act deduction.

The use of psychotherapy is diagnosis dependent.

Its (psychotherapy) use in clients that requires antidepressants, will be counterproductive, complicating and possibly fatal.

Psychotherapy is a product of scientific thinking.

The church raises the hope of the depressed, by reinforcing cure on myth, superstition, illusion and irrationalities.

How this pseudo psychotherapy will prove to be effectively therapeutic, is arguable.
