A CALL FOR BUHARI’S RESIGNATION.

.By Ezugu Okike

It is more than one month since Muhammadu Buhari hopped off to London for medical treatment. The letter he sent to the Senate seeking leave shouldn’t have sailed as it was vague, improperly drafted and made no helpful disclosure about Buhari’s state of health. Nonetheless, he got the leave and left Osinbajo holding the baby. The fact that the ball was rightly left in Osinbajo’s court does not nullify our extant laws nor does it throw any slur on the foresight of our founding fathers.

.

The framers of the 1979 constitution which influenced the subsequent 1999 constitution were very astute. They unambiguously outlined the grounds on which a president could be removed from office. One of such grounds is when the president gets swollen with excesses or is mired up in gross misconduct. Another is when the president by the reason of physical disability is rendered incapable of discharging the responsibilities of his office. The plain command of the constitution is that he be impeached. Other grounds for removal exist.

.

From every indication, Buhari is gravely and critically ill. His ability to carry on the awesome duties of the presidency is in question. One of the most basic features of a state is continuity. We must continue the forward thrust of this country irrespective of whose cage is rattled. Buhari cannot make an effective administrator by proxy. Osinbajo cannot continue to compensate for him as the wisdom of our founding fathers recognized the need for a president and a vice president. More than a hand is needed on the Nigerian deck.

.

It is a common practice around the world that presidents leave office when they become physically incapable. It is not peculiar to our jurisdiction. Woodrow Wilson’s unfortunate deed of keeping American people in the dark about an ailment provoked the 25th amendment to the constitution of the United States. It became enshrined in the American constitution that disability or incapacity would constitute a legal reason for resignation or impeachment. Still in American history, Dwight Eisenhower who was the American president between 1953-1961 once suffered a heart attack and promptly instructed his press secretary to inform Americans of his condition.

.

Buhari feels nothing for Nigerians but disdain. Everything an average Nigerian knows of Buhari’s health status proceeded from the grapevine. Buhari sees it as beneath his dignity to inform Nigerians on his health. He recently spoke to Donald Trump, a momentous phone conversation his supporters celebrated with great ecastcy. An old woman in Dura told news men that she speaks with her brother every day. The latest phone call he made was to his unthinking special adviser on media in which the ungrateful tyrant labelled Nigerians as mischief makers. In all these calls and hide and seek, Nigerians are not entitled to a wind about their own president. This is what obtains when dictatorship approached a people dressed in a deceptive democratic toga.

.

In all appearances, our president is dreadfully ill. No shadow of doubt remains as to whether there could be a finding for incapacity. Buhari should do the most needful and honourable thing. Nigeria is too sick a country to rely on the snail’s pace of another sick man. It would bespeak statesmanship and patriotism if at this critical juncture he accepts to step down and take a ringside seat. This was the same thing Buhari himself adviced Yar’adua to do in 2010.

.

Vladimir Putin who outwardly looks the exact picture of heath is considering departing the public arena for what The Express described as “worsening health “. Looking at Putin he seems filled with vim and vigor. There is no detectable indication of physical unfitness. There was no pressure from the Russian population. The Russian rumour mill was never busy with Putin’s health. But as a thorough patriot Putin understands that a state’s ship does not sail fast if it is being paddled by a sick hand.

.

A man who puts country first, Putin is rearing a 43-year old Alexei Dyumin for the job of the presidency. Dyumin is not of the same extraction with Putin. He was the gallant commander of the Russian army’s special operation forces and now the virtuous governor of Tula region. Dyumin is a hulky, burly young man who overspills with energy. Putin trusts he could cut the mustard. This is the example of statesmanship.

.

What Buhari is doing now is a sit-tight thing. Convention, law and common sense clamour that he resigns. He is in no way different from Yahya Jammeh of Gambia whose stubborn government Buhari recently mobilized a fearsome contingent to browbeat out of office. Jammeh sat right after being voted out but Buhari is sitting tight after falling gravely ill. Let him resign.

I'm not a fan of bubu..but I guess this the time for nigerians to pray for our president..

But na lie..
All the zombies want is for the veepee to take over..but it won't work.

You guys packaged him and sold him to nigerians..now you wish him death..

Wish he don't return..wish he resign.. all for a free meal.. Osibanjo presidency.. na wao!

Suddenly we now have two administration in one elected office..

Treachery is bad.. deceit in whatever way it comes should be condemned..

Bubu has done the right by communicating with the N/A.. innocently.. placing osibanjo in acting capacity..

Now,the want him to resign.. so that Osibanjo can take over.. very selfish of a tribe..

Not ruling out utterance from the acclaimed party leader..

Buhari will return in good health..to complete his tenure..and shame the two faced sophisticated humans..

Like say any of them will do same..when it comes to power..abi no be ontop this Sai baba matter that an Oba threaten a tribe with lagoon death.

Kudos to Baba Obj.. once a General..always a General.. his loyalty is never in doubt.
Although stylishly trying to exempt himself from the Osibanjo media hype..

Nigerians are seeing, reading and watching this treachery and how of shame..

The presidency has issued warning of this.. Arewa youths too..

But instead to heed.. this sophisticated one's term is jealousy, with lots of name calling..

Karma Is abitch.. What's goes around..always come around..

Wishing bubu speedy recovery..

Sai Baba..

Ndiigbo are just being tactless. Who sent this Ezugwu? Why can't we learn to stay off issues in Nigeria that we have nothing to deal with?

What is all these nonsense of Igbo people leading the demand for Buhari resignation and Osinbajo coronation?

At a time the Northerner commoners are looking for who to pour the frustration of Buhari incapacitation and eminent oust from power on, Yorubas that would be immediate beneficiaries of Buhari ousting are as usual
being treacherous in their ways, lips singing support for Buhari, while wishing in their mind that he never returns and that Osinbajo their son takes over.
Silly Igbos with no sense of tact are busy opening their toilets called mouths everywhere, calling for Buhari resignation, doing the Yoruba dirty work for them and directly puting Ndiigbo in the North at the risk of another bloodshed from ignorant frustrated Northern commoners.

This is madness. Where is the wisdom, Umuigbo. Emere unu ya eme?

You don't understand at all. Osinbajo is walk over in 2019 and igbos will be highly favored by ambitious northerners. Yoruba are scared of buhari's death, they were initially happy someone boasted that Tinubu has death with him, but later they are beggining to see the future. Buhair is dead or incapacitated. we support Osumbade to incure the wrath of the North more for afonjas. Osumbad in office is easier for igbos to kick afonjas out. Yorubas avoid always hide behind the north, we want to face osunbade directly which is a walkover

How do you intend to get this northern alliance? By being seen as the most vocal group in calling for Osinbajo coronation and Buhari resignation? You are only making yourselves cheap pawns in Yoruba slimy game. You are doing their dirty work for them.

Tact demands that Ndiigbo stay in the background and allow Northerner- Yoruba romance turn sour and then capitalize on that, and not presenting ourselves as defense for Yorubas in their current slimy game of pretending to Want Buhari to continue, when we all all know they secretly covert his position and the enthronement of Osinbajo.
Let's learn to stay of this Osinbajo- Buhari issue. It's non of our business.

You wouldn't be highly favoured by Northerners if you are seen to be the most vocal in calling for the resignation of Buhari. Incase you don't know, Buhari enjoys massive fellowership amongst the Northern commoners.
