Custom Duty Papers Missing by SortOut: 6:45pm On Mar 02, 2017
My cousin recently discovered that his mom's car does not bear a Custom Duty Paperwork (All other documents intact) . The woman has been disturbing the dealer that got the car, but he said he worked with the money he was given. I understand that the car can be seized by Custom Officers.

My question is how do we go about getting an authentic Custom document?

I'm here sir.

If you go through this thread, you'll see where it's stated that you need to run checks on a car before purchase.

Has the car been seized, if they've seized it, insist that you want to see their CAC (area controller) or let your lawyer write a letter to them that you want to pay the duty, although it might cost you money but that will be the only way. Also, make sure that it's not a command like Ore-Benin command where they do outright seizure.

If it hasn't been seized, I can help to you too with the actual cost of duty. You can meet the dealer to negotiate how the duty will be paid, then I can help with the payment.

He'll need to do something fast about it cos this is the latest signal from customs and they're now mandated to go into car stands, streets etc as from next month to seize vehicles in order to meet their target of N1.1 trillion set by federal government. So how long will you advise him to keep hiding it?

CGC GRANTS GRACE PERIOD FOR DUTY PAYMENT ON SMUGGLED VEHICLES

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) has approved a grace period of one month, between Monday 13th March to Wednesday 12th April 2017 for owners of all vehicles within the Country whose customs duty has not been paid, to do so.

Consequently, all motor dealers and private owners of such vehicles are advised to visit the nearest Customs Zonal Office to pay the appropriate Customs Duty on them.

The Four Zonal Offices of the Nigeria Customs Service are: Zone A Headquarters, No. 1 Harvey Road, Yaba, Lagos; Zone B Headquarters, Kabala Doki, Kaduna; Zone C Headquarters, Nigeria Ports Authority, Port Harcourt and Zone D Headquarters, Yelwa Tudu Road, Bauchi State.

The CGC therefore calls on all persons in possession of such vehicles to take advantage of the grace period to pay appropriate duties on them, as there will be an aggressive anti-smuggling operation to seize as well as prosecute owners of such smuggled vehicles after the deadline of Wednesday 12th April, 2017.

My case is different, when i bought my naija used car, d owner assured me he has d custom papers, but dont know where he kept them, he asked me for sometime to look for them. Few months later, same story, promised to search, seems they're lost, as he can't find them. My question is; how do i confirm if d car is duly registered with customs and if it is, how do i get another custom papers re-printed?

I'm also in the same shoe. I've registered my car but lost the Customs papers. How can I get a reprint from Customs?
