Sokoto State Decries Increasing Number Of Street Beggars. by thuggCheetah(m): 11:34pm On Mar 07, 2017
The Sokoto state Government on Tuesday decried the increasing incidence of street begging in spite of many intervention schemes to assist the less-privileged members of the society.

Alhaji Mani Katami, the state Commissioner for Religious Affairs said this in Sokoto on Tuesday that the preponderance of street begging was a concern to the state government.

”It is highly regrettable that street beggars had virtually taken over major streets, road intersections, markets, private and public offices.

"Unfortunately, the obnoxious act is being perpetrated by men, women, children and the aged.

"This is happening in spite of various intervention schemes whereby indigent residents of the state are routinely being assisted at the ministry as well as the Zakkat and Endowment Committee.”

Katami enumerated some of the intervention schemes to include the payment of N6,500 monthly allowance to each of the nearly 7,000 physically-challenged persons by the committee.

Others, he noted, include the distribution of assorted medicine worth about N8million free as well as food items to indigent patients monpersons

"The state government is also routinely assisting the indigent persons with money to rehabilitate their houses, marry off their sons and daughters and assistance to orphans as well as widows, among others.

"But, we are now pondering on convening a meeting between the state and its neighbors, like Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi and Katsina states to proffer plausible solutions to the menace.

"This became imperative as majority of the street beggars were not from the state, with some of them even coming from the neighbouring Niger Republic,” Katami said.

Recently, women are in the news for many reasons in Nigeria. In the video below, women lead protest supporting President Buhari.

una dey complain of street beggars? E never start. Not even a single plan for these kids but their men must marry up to four wives, divorce and marry more wives and whether u like it or not, dick must fvck and alimajiri must be born. the leaders are d worst. They encourage these paupers to breed like rabbits and they use these kids for their own selfish advantage, dumping them afterwards .

The natal/birth rate of North most especially North West/North East is too much. I don't know what initiatives the government over there are making to curb issue of polygamy and uncontrolled sex activities because their recent encroachment to the middle belt and the entire south of the country is becoming too much. Every streets you turn to, you see them begging for alms including some immigrants from Niger and Chad republic.

They have not started yet. They hate western education with passion. I dont mean they dnt go to school but they hate schooling.
They marry up to four and divorce anytime they want and marry again and keep reproducing as if reproduction is a career. The only u divorce in dat state is just to bring d woman's belongings outside and lock ur door and dats all.

They lock up their women indoors so d women are almost useless in life, and children most times dnt cater for their parents at old age because most times d time they spend with their parents are too little.
North will not stop exporting beggars to other part of d country because their way ensures dat they are in continous production of beggars

For a region that believes begging is a basic human right, I expect no less. Physically challenged or not, majority of those lots are not interested in working to earn.

No amount the government sets for welfare package, it won't stop. The solution is education, not the free primary and secondary school, no. I mean educating the adult population about the realities of the modern world.

It doesn't matter if it's in mosques, churches, markets or other public places. Just let them know how every individual is a part of the society. Who knows, they may one day open their hearts to western education.

#Peace
