Poverty had become synonymous to my family. I swore that My children will not suffer the same faith. I fought hard with poverty to train my self in the university.

One Day an old friend of mine talked me into going to Italy through the Sahara. I accepted and bade my family farewell. People have told me the pain of going through the Sahara but I ignored their cries.
When we got to Niger republic, my friend transferred me to another handler called farouq. He spoke english with an accent. He was a tuareg arab. I didn't care so long as I would make it in Italy. After so many days journeying through the Sahara. Farouq opened up to me that we had a 50 50 chance of getting there.

Dead bodies litter the sahara. Cold shiver ran down my spine. Farouq told me they were killed by human organ harvester and I was shocked anybody could do this to a fellow human.

When we got to Libya, Tripoli. My handler gave me to another person. Hameed didn't talk much. His job was to help me get to Italy.

The agents lodged us in a ghetto in Tripoli. Filled with travellers of various nationalities and tongues. I could differentiate a nigerian or two because the spoke tiv language.
Our handler had to postpone our journey because of the rough Mediterranean sea. Finally on a wednesday, we embarked on this journey of life or death.

40 passengers were loaded into the sea battered inflatable boat. I quietly said my prayers silently and kissed my small crucifix. We moved under the cover of darkness, gradually our eyes adjusted to the darkness.

The journey to Italy started smoothly. We were seated quietly in the small rows of plank that we called seat. Each with his own thought of making it big in Italy. For me I could almost smell italy. I would be the first person in my families history to cross the nigerian shore. As at 4 o'clock in the morning our boat started leaking. We tried to salvage the situation but made it even worst.
The more water we bailed out, the more it came in. Panick set in and people were already grabbing the few life vest. People were jumping into the cold Mediterranean sea for safety. I swam to a small cliff.

The short of it is that I lost consciousness and found my self washed up in an italian beach. I thought I was in heaven, but I pinched my self to confirm my doubt. I dont know about my fellow passengers in the journey to italy. I was totally soaked and needed a change. Then I heard siren and instinctively ducked behind a palm trees. I read a sign post written in english which told me my location as Napoli.

I stayed in that beach for about 3hours. My clothes became dry. Soon I blended in with the crowd. I started eating food leftover inside restaurant dustbins. It was only God that was protecting me. I joined this group of boys sleeping in the side walk. I slept on side walk in the night. Some times police would chase us out of parks. I made friends with some though guys. They were into the drug business.
I was delivering small packages within italy to high end customers. I could not work because of I didn't have passport. Rome is beautiful. Very soon I learnt to speak italian. I could now order for my food.

My boss arranged for me to become a bouncer at a club in bologna. Close to the university. The Luigi club. This is where the big boys come to unwind.
I took advantage of my opportunity. I have seen various opportunity to make a fortune in italy but had no money. So I decided to partner with one of these big boys in this club who have nothing to do with their money
