SENATE RIDICULES BUHARI’S OFFICE WITH MAGU’S REJECTION, SAYS FALANA

A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has said that the upper legislative chamber ridiculed the office of President Muhammadu Buhari by rejecting the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The upper legislative chamber had cited a security report from the Department of State Services (DSS) as reason for its action.
But Falana advised Buhari to restrain the secret police from sabotaging the fight against corruption.
The lawyer said some senators under investigation by the commission ought not to have participated in the screening.
“The rejection of the nomination of Mr Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) this afternoon by the senate on the basis of a security report compiled by the State Security Service is the height of official ridicule of the office of the president,” he said in a statement.
“It is high time the State Security Service was restrained by President Buhari from sabotaging the fight against corruption by the federal government.
“With respect to the senate the confirmation hearing hurriedly conducted today is illegal in every material particular. The participation of many senators who are either under investigation or being prosecuted by the EFCC has vitiated the entire proceedings of the senate on ground of conflict of interest
“It is also a contravention of the rules of the senate which stipulates that matters which are sub judice shall not be discussed by the senate.”
Falana said Buhari could still re-nominate Magu or allow him to keep working in acting capacity.
However, notwithstanding the rejection of the nomination of Magu by the senate, Falana said that the options open to the president are clear and straight forward.
Such options, he said, include that “Mr. Magu’s nomination may be re-presented to the Senate if and when the Federal Government decides to put its house in order
“Alternatively, the president may allow Mr. Magu to remain the acting chairman of the EFCC since he was appointed in that capacity pursuant to section 171 of the constitution.
“But if the president is not satisfied with Mr. Magu’s performance, he is at liberty to appoint another person whose nomination will be forwarded to the Senate in accordance with section 2 (3) of the EFCC Act, 2004.
“In the light of the foregoing, President Buhari is enjoined to ensure that the fight against corruption is not derailed by highly placed corrupt elements who have enlisted the support of fifth columnists and reactionary forces in the government.”

Most of these Senators within these pasts years have looted this country dry. Now they are scared of being indicted.

Nothing can stop this fight against corruption by the Buhari Administration. Every yam eater will be exposed and hung to dry. Recklessness and nonchalance in every sector will be abrogated, normalcy will return to our dear Country. This is President Buhari's vision for our Country. I pray he lives to fulfil his desires.

This is separation of power at work, and we should applaud democracy. In my opinion, it's the Presidency that have embarrassed themselves and should put her house in order. The Senate did what they have to do

Falana needs to have his head examined. He has been giving nonsense advice lately.

There is separation of powers in a democracy. Advising that Magu should be allowed to continue working as the head of EFCC after he has been rejected by the Senate is like saying that the Senate approval of any official is of no value.

Why have a senate if the recommended of the Senate can be ignored?

Once again, Falana needs to have his head examined. He must be searching for favours from the FG, but he should not turn logic upside down just to get FG patronage.

When the DSS arrrested some judges at 2am, some folks applauded them, but now.........

Are you saying that Buhari should have manipulated or influenced the DSS report just so Magu could have a pass through the Senate?

I only fault Buhari here for not presenting another candidate after the first rejection. Only Kano state alone can provide more than 50 credible and corrupt free candidates.

I just don't know why we make simple things very difficult and controversial.

as you can see, i mentioned why he couldnt request for the clearance also.
on ur 50credibles, how many can you point to in your community, not to mention the whole state, you think its abc to get a human without affiliation to any fellow human abi?
so far, base on the reports by the dss, i strongly feel it's about negligence from the president.
dss signed off two reports, senate used the one convenient for their narrative, the president should be able to query why the two conflicting reports on a subject without any evidence of additional info necessitating a change of view from the same organisation.
it's all about two things, someone is using the dss and the president cant control his cabinet.
